Börje F. Karlsson

Principal Research Eng Lead

I am a Principal Research Dev Manager in the Data, Kownledge, and Intelligence (DKI) research group at MSRA

I have been with Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) since the second half of 2012. Initially on the Mobile and Sensing Systems and System Algorithms research groups, I’m now a member of the Knowledge Computing group – part of DKI. My main research interests are knowledge pipelines/analytics, mobile and context-aware systems, intelligent agents, and digital entertainment, but my work also covers aspects of software engineering and testing.

Before joining Microsoft Research I was a Research Scientist at Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT), a Nokia-founded R&D lab in Brazil, leading its Contextual Platform effort. Previously I’ve also worked as system/software architect, consultant, product owner, and development team lead on projects for companies such as Nokia, C.E.S.A.R., Motorola, 3, TIM, Radix.com, Petrobras, among others.

I received my doctorate in Computer Science from PUC-Rio, Brazil in 2010 and my BSc from UFPE, Brazil.
