About

Bozidar Radunovic is a Researcher in the Systems and Networking groups at Microsoft Research, Cambridge. His research interests are in design and evaluation of computer systems and algorithms with particular interest in wireless communications.

Bozidar received his PhD in technical sciences from EPFL, Switzerland, in 2005, and his BSc at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 1999. In 2006 he spent one year as a post-doc researcher at TREC, at ENS Paris and then joined Microsoft Research. In 2008 he was awarded IEEE William R. Bennett Prize Paper Award in the Field of Communications Systems.

Projects

Fennel

Established: March 16, 2015

This is a project looking into design and evaluation of efficient and deployable algorithms for assignment of complex workloads to resources in modern cloud service platforms. Alumni Jennifer Iglesias (Carnegie Mellon University; summer internship 2014) Florian Bourse (Ecole Normale Superieure, Paris; summer internship 2013) Bo Zong (University of California Santa Barbara; summer internship 2013)

Ziria – Wireless Programming for Hardware Dummies

Established: June 16, 2014

Software-defined radios (SDR) have a potential to bring major innovation in wireless networking design. However, their impact so far has been limited due to complex programming tools. Ziria addresses this problem. It consists of a novel programming language and an optimizing compiler. It is able to synthesize a very efficient SDR code from a high-level PHY description written in Ziria language. Big Data Analytics

Established: October 18, 2012

We conduct research in the area of algorithms and systems for processing massive amounts of data. Our work aims at pushing the boundary of computer science in the area of algorithms and systems for large-scale computations. Our mission is to achieve major technological breakthroughs in order to facilitate new systems and services relying on efficient processing of big data. Research Areas Database queries - How can we efficiently resolve database queries on massive amounts of input data? Here the input data may be…

Green Spaces

Established: July 1, 2010

Connecting the Next Billion Users to the Broadband Internet. The number of broadband Internet subscribers in India in July 2015 is only 113 million, or less than 10% of India’s population. To extend the availability of broadband Internet to the next billion users, Indian government is deploying the National Optical Fiber Network (NOFN), laying over a million miles of fiber optic cables. However, NOFN will still not reach the 600,000 villages, each of which can…
