Portrait of Ishai Menache

Ishai Menache

Senior Researcher

I am a senior researcher in MSR Redmond. My focus is on designing large-scale optimization frameworks for cloud systems and applications. I am also interested in the economics of cloud computing.

Current projects:

  • Large-scale logistics (e.g., workforce management)
  • Resource management for cloud systems (cluster scheduling, DaaS, WANs)

Before joining MSR, I worked on machine learning algorithms (specifically, reinforcement learning), and also on game theoretic models of communication networks (see this monograph for a summary). See Google Scholar for a complete list of publications.
I completed my Ph.D. at the Technion, and spent a couple of years at MIT as a postdoc associate.

Recent PCs: EuroSys’17, SPAA’16

I’ve had the privilege to work with excellent students*:

Virajith jalaparti (UIUC), Mikhail Rybalkin (Steklov Mathematical Institute, St. Petersburg), Jonathan Yaniv (Technion), Spandana Raj B (undergrad, IIT Madras), Andrew Newell (Purdue), Ivan Bliznets (Steklov Mathematical Institute, St. Petersburg), Sangeetha Abdu Jyothi (UIUC), Zilong Tan (Duke), Lalith Suresh (TU-Berlin), Konstantina Mellou (MIT), Angela Jiang (CMU), Hongzi Mao (MIT)

* I am always looking for interns who like working in the intersection of algorithms, operations research and computer systems. Feel free to contact me for more details.
