Jia Liu is a postdoctoral researcher in Microsoft Research NYC computational social science group. Her research interests fall into two major streams. One stream focuses on modeling user online search behaviors, in particular user search queries and subsequent click-through, with the objective of understanding and predicting user preferences for content. A second stream examines how incentives, such as loyalty programs and promotions, influence consumer purchase behaviors. Overall, her research relies on a mix of secondary data, online experiments, statistical modeling, and machine learning methods.
Jia received her Ph.D. in marketing from Columbia University where she was advised by Olivier Toubia. Jia received a M.S. degree in Statistics from Michigan State University, and she completed her undergraduate degree in mathematics at Tianjin University in China. Starting in summer 2018, she will be joining Hong Kong University of Science and Technology as an assistant professor in Marketing.
