Jim Pinkelman

Jim Pinkelman is currently senior director in Microsoft Research Outreach. Jim joined Microsoft Research in 2010, and he now leads international research collaborations programs and projects involving Microsoft’s and academic researchers. His current focus is data science research and cloud computing for research workloads. Prior to coming to Microsoft Research, Jim was the senior director responsible for Microsoft’s academic outreach efforts to technical students and educators in the United States.

Jim served on the Board of Advisors for the University of Washington, Bothell, from 2006-2012. He is a ABET Program Evaluator for Computing Sciences Accreditation Board. From 1997-2003, he was an Adjunct Professor at Loyola University Chicago in the Graduate School of Business, Masters of Information Systems Management program, where he taught courses in Computer Programming, Information Systems and Technology Systems, and Statistics.

Before joining Microsoft, Jim served in senior technology roles at technology startups firms in Chicago, IL. In 1999, Jim co-authored a book on Business Intelligence, Microsoft OLAP Unleashed for Macmillan/Sams Publishing. He spent seven years as an officer in the United States Air Force as a project management engineer on space systems. Jim is currently a member of the Board of Advisors at the University of Washington, Bothell. He has served as an ABET Program Evaluator for the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member over the past fifteen years teaching courses in computer programming and statistics. He received a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame where his area of research was time series modelling and digital signal processing applied in aeroelasticity situations.
