Jonathan Tien has been with Microsoft Corporation since 2004 both in Redmond Washington and Beijing. As Director of Engineering for Microsoft Research Asia, his research interest is in how to move research results into real products rapidly, realize return on research investments.
Jonathan Tien started career with AT&T Bell Labs, working on multiprocessor system running UNIX. He also did research at Spacelabs Medical for five years, focusing on intelligent patient monitor devices such as EKG and SpO2. He later joined bSQUARE Corporation as a key employee developing embedded platform technology based on Windows CE. As a senior leader for R&D, he played an important role for the rapid growth of the company, resulted an IPO on NASDAQ in 1999.
Jonathan Tien graduated with BS degree in mathematics from University of Science and Technology of China (Hefei, Anhui) 1983, received MS and Ph.D. in computer science from the City University of New York (New York, NY, USA) in 1986 and 1991 respectively.
