I’m a researcher in the Hardware, Devices, and Experiences group (led by Doug Burger). My research interests include mobile systems, distributed systems, security and privacy.
I joined Microsoft Research after completing my Ph.D. (University of Helsinki, 2007) and a Post Doc (ETH Zurich, 2010) in Computer Science. Prior to that I got my Bachelor and Master degrees in Telecommunications Engineering at Politecnico di Milano. Much of my research has revolved around mobile systems, from the very earliest smartphones to modern platforms. I have worked on many aspects of mobile systems, from energy efficiency, ad hoc networking, and middleware for distribution of application modules to security and privacy. More recently, I’m leading the uLink project, which brings the equivalent of web URLs to mobile apps.
