About

Steve Hodges combines hardware engineering and creative design skills with knowledge of emerging and established technologies to conceive novel, inclusive solutions. He works at all scales from prototype to production, and his work has contributed to millions of devices with tens of millions of users spanning domains such as education, assistive technologies, mobile devices and the internet of things. He is also a passionate proponent and communicator of technology.

Steve’s career goal is to identify, develop and deliver hardware-plus-software experiences that provide lasting value to users and society, and to inspire and empower future generations of creative technologists to do the same.

Steve is a fellow of the IEEE and the IET. He has been granted 125 patents and has published 90 top-tier peer-reviewed papers with 25,000 citations and an h-index of over 70. His work includes the BBC micro:bit, SenseCam, Azure Sphere, .NET Gadgeteer, the EPC, software-defined batteries, the Touch Mouse, Kinect Fusion, Circuit Stickers, the Active Bat, and ThinSight. He has received six lasting impact “test-of-time” awards and eleven best paper/note/honourable mention awards from the ACM and IEEE; his work has also been covered by the popular media including Time Magazine, Science, Scientific American, New Scientist and the BBC.
