Mint Kunkel is an optics researcher at Microsoft Research Cambridge. He is working on Project Silica, an Azure cloud storage project that aims to store data in glass for long-term storage.
He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in 2018 from University of Minnesota, where his research focused on custom optics design and fiber lasers. He earned the Bachelor’s degree in physics at Carleton College, Minnesota.
At Microsoft, Mint’s focus is on free-space optical systems for polarisation microscopy. His work involves laser scanning and diffraction-limited optical systems.
