As former Microsoft executive <a href=\"http:\/\/www.recode.net\/2016\/6\/6\/11863268\/artificial-intelligence-machine-learning-code-conference-steven-sinofksy\" target=\"_blank\">Steven Sinofsky<\/a>\u00a0noted following the <a href=\"https:\/\/events.recode.net\/events\/code-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\">Code Conference<\/a> earlier this year, \u201cIt is clear, without qualification, that AI is a mainstream technology among the technology leadership companies, and in the near future will be an ingredient of most every leading product and service.\u201d\r\n<h2>Research at Microsoft and IJCAI 2016<\/h2>\r\nIn addition to the presentation of <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/accepted_papers\" target=\"_blank\">551 technical papers<\/a> (selected from the largest ever pool of submissions to IJCAI), the conference included\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/accepted_tutorials\" target=\"_blank\">tutorials<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/accepted_workshops\" target=\"_blank\">workshops<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/accepted_demos\" target=\"_blank\">demonstrations<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/invited_speakers\" target=\"_blank\">invited talks<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/sister_conference_best_papers\" target=\"_blank\">sister conferences best paper talks<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/early_career_spotlight\" target=\"_blank\">early career spotlight talks<\/a>. On Friday afternoon, IJCAI had an AI Festival featuring talks from IJCAI award winners (this session was open to the public). Friday also featured an <a href=\"http:\/\/ijcai-16.org\/index.php\/welcome\/view\/industry_day\" target=\"_blank\">industry day<\/a>.\r\n\r\nThe theme of this year\u2019s conference was Human-Aware Artificial Intelligence\u2013we had technical paper sessions, invited talks and panels organized around this theme, and focused on the many benefits of AI systems working in collaboration with humans.
