The 2008 event focused on computing technologies that enable scalable solutions in order to address scientific grand challenges.<\/p>\n<h3>Theme: Accelerating Time to Scientific Discovery<\/h3>\n<p>In 2007,\u00a0the Microsoft eScience workshop at RENCI in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, attracted more than 250 scientists, researchers, and academics. There were more than 50 presentations and 100 posters showcasing projects in areas as diverse as astronomy, malaria, and the use of GPUs for scientific computation. Feedback from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and the event also served as a venue for Microsoft groups to meet with researchers and discuss future collaborations.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, we are fortunate to be partnering with Professor Geoffrey Fox from\u00a0<a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indiana.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indiana University<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a> and the <a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"http:\/\/escience2008.iu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">IEEE eScience Conference<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a>. The venue for both events is\u00a0<a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"http:\/\/www.universityplace.iupui.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">University Place Conference Center & Hotel<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a> at\u00a0<a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iupui.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indiana University\u2013Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a> in Indianapolis, Indiana.<\/p>\n<p>In keeping with the workshop theme, Accelerating Time to Scientific Discovery, there are several new features in support:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tutorials that cover facilitatory technologies ranging from cloud computing to virtual research environments and repositories.<\/li>\n<li>A panel of scientists from diverse research disciplines describe roadblocks and The 2008 event focused on computing technologies that enable scalable solutions in order to address scientific grand challenges.<\/p>\n<h3>Theme: Accelerating Time to Scientific Discovery<\/h3>\n<p>In 2007,\u00a0the Microsoft eScience workshop at RENCI in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, attracted more than 250 scientists, researchers, and academics. There were more than 50 presentations and 100 posters showcasing projects in areas as diverse as astronomy, malaria, and the use of GPUs for scientific computation. Feedback from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and the event also served as a venue for Microsoft groups to meet with researchers and discuss future collaborations.<\/p>\n<p>In 2008, we are fortunate to be partnering with Professor Geoffrey Fox from\u00a0<a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"http:\/\/www.indiana.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indiana University<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a> and the <a class=\"msr-external-link glyph-append glyph-append-open-in-new-tab glyph-append-xsmall\" href=\"http:\/\/escience2008.iu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">IEEE eScience Conference<span class=\"sr-only\"> (opens in new tab)<\/span><\/a>. The 2008 event focused on computing technologies that enable scalable solutions in order to address scientific grand challenges.\r\n<h3>Theme: Accelerating Time to Scientific Discovery<\/h3>\r\nIn 2007,\u00a0the Microsoft eScience workshop at RENCI in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, attracted more than 250 scientists, researchers, and academics. There were more than 50 presentations and 100 posters showcasing projects in areas as diverse as astronomy, malaria, and the use of GPUs for scientific computation. Feedback from the attendees was overwhelmingly positive, and the event also served as a venue for Microsoft groups to meet with researchers and discuss future collaborations.\r\n\r\nIn 2008, we are fortunate to be partnering with Professor Geoffrey Fox from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.indiana.edu\/\" target=\"_new\">Indiana University<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/escience2008.iu.edu\/\" target=\"_new\">IEEE eScience Conference<\/a>. The venue for both events is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.universityplace.iupui.edu\/\" target=\"_new\">University Place Conference Center &amp; Hotel<\/a> at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iupui.edu\/\" target=\"_new\">Indiana University\u2013Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI)<\/a> in Indianapolis, Indiana.\r\n\r\nIn keeping with the workshop theme, Accelerating Time to Scientific Discovery,
