This study analyzes the impact of a commercially available <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">computer-assisted time protection intervention that automatically <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and preemptively schedules calendar time for self-determined activ<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ities. We analyzed the behaviors and self-reports of workers in two <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">naturalistic studies. First, we studied 27 workers who were already <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">using Computer-Assisted Protected Time (<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CAP time<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">) and found <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that they mainly used it for focused work. Second, we analyzed <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the effect of<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CAP time<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">as a randomized intervention on 89 workers <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">who never had<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CAP time<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and found that those with it self-reported <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">an increase in performance, job resources, and immersion. In both <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">studies, workers with<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">CAP time<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">exhibited a rearrangement of ac<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">tivities leading to an overall reduction in work activity.
