Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCIs) are moving beyond their original and main applications as rehabilitation technologies, to become promising tools for interacting with users by measuring their mental states. This talk presents an overview of modern BCIs and focuses on their integration with immersive technologies such as Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR\/AR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The presentation explores how immersive environments both challenge and enhance BCI systems, raising several issues such as usability, robustness, AI-driven signal processing, and ecological validity. Through concrete research results, including SSVEP-based interaction in AR and passive BCIs for adaptation, the talk illustrates how neurophysiological signals can be leveraged to build Neuro-Adaptive immersive systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A concrete example is given on EEG-based neuromarkers of vection in VR, with the aim to target cybersickness mitigation, that has been investigated within the European GENESIS project, led by the speaker. The talk concludes with open challenges and perspectives toward closing the loop between users\u2019 mental states and immersive environments, aiming ultimately to fill the gap between BCI\u2019s and end-users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hakim Si-Mohammed holds a PhD in Computer Science from Inria\/INSA Rennes, France. He is currently Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at University of Lille, and conducts his research within CRIStAL laboratory. He also serves as the Deputy Head of the CNRS \u201cVisual Sciences and Culture\u201d Research Federation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hakim\u2019s research focuses on Brain-Computer Interfaces and immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality, in relation with Human-Computer Interaction, with a particular interest on neuro-adaptive systems based on EEG. He has been involved in several academic projects as well as collaborations with the Industry, such as Orange Labs (Rennes, France) in 2018, or Microsoft Research (Seattle, USA) in 2019. He also serves as General Secretary of CORTICO, the French Society of Research on Brain-Computer Interfaces, and is actively involved in NeurotechEU, the European University of Brain and Technology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
