I envision the an end-to-end light portal that can capture and &#8220;re-enact&#8221; real-world objects or events in a different time or space, as if they were being &#8220;tele-ported&#8221; right in front of the viewers.<\/p>\n<p>While a full realization of such a light-portal is many years away, I will present some progresses we have made during the last few years. More specifically, I will talk about a novel 3D display architecture that utilizes an array of projectors and microlens screens to emit a large collection of controllable light rays to create illusion of 3D without glasses. In addition I will show some results from some of the world&#8217;s fastest and best stereo algorithms we have developed and discuss to extend 3D reconstruction to non-diffuse materials.
