Our compiler takes as input a program<br \/>\nwritten using concurrent relations and synthesizes a representation<br \/>\nof the relations as sets of cooperating data structures as well as the<br \/>\nplacement and acquisition of locks to synchronize concurrent access<br \/>\nto those data structures. The resulting code is correct by construction:<br \/>\nindividual relational operations are implemented correctly and the<br \/>\naggregate set of operations is serializable and deadlock free. The<br \/>\nrelational specification also permits a high-level optimizer to choose<br \/>\nthe best performing of many possible legal data representations<br \/>\nand locking strategies, which we demonstrate with an experiment<br \/>\nautotuning a graph benchmark.<\/p>\n<p>This is a joint work with Peter Hawkins (Google),  Alex Aiken<br \/>\n(Stanford), Kathleen Fisher (Tufts University) and Martin Rinard<br \/>\n(MIT).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!-- .asset-content --><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We describe an approach for synthesizing data representations for concurrent programs.
