Many companies are already realizing impressive performance gains by using it. Here are just a few examples:<\/p>\n<p>Edgenet manages data for Fortune 500 firms, and its success depends on updating clients\u2019 databases so that they accurately reflect transactions, especially for databases supporting online shopping carts. By upgrading to SQL Server 2014, Edgenet boosted throughput sevenfold with In-Memory OLTP. Read the case study <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/casestudies\/Microsoft-SQL-Server-2014-Enterprise\/Edgenet\/Data-Services-Firm-Gains-Real-Time-Access-to-Product-Data-with-In-Memory-Technology\/710000003026\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SBI Liquidity Market \u00a0manages more than US$1 trillion each month in foreign currency exchange trading. To increase scalability and speed, it upgraded its trading system to SQL Server 2014. With In-Memory OLTP, SBI Liquidity Markets improved throughput by 10x, processing up to 200,000 transactions per second. Fast access to medical records is critical.\u00a0 In the most extreme scenarios, if a doctor can\u2019t access the system fast enough, patient\u2019s lives could be at stake.\u00a0 When TPP started testing In-Memory OLTP by upgrading its databases to SQL Server 2014 managed to get the solution up and running in only half a day.\u00a0 Although the databases were running on existing servers, TPP observed 7 times performance improvements.\u00a0 Further details on their story are <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/casestudies\/Microsoft-SQL-Server-2014-Enterprise\/TPP\/Clinical-Software-Easily-Supports-Thousands-of-New-Users-and-Helps-Doctors-Save-Lives\/710000003350\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.msdn.com\/b\/sqlcat\/archive\/2013\/06\/25\/sql-server-in-memory-oltp-internals-overview-for-ctp1.aspx\">In-Memory OLTP<\/a> is transforming performance, it\u2019s just one feature in the broader Microsoft platform that\u2019s supporting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/server-cloud\/modern-apps.aspx#fbid=rheBNHDDvrv\">modern applications<\/a>\u2019 demand for intense scale and ease of access.<\/p>\n<p>This end-to-end platform is what sets Microsoft apart, and that\u2019s why I\u2019d like to echo some <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.technet.com\/b\/microsoft_blog\/archive\/2013\/10\/07\/the-enterprise-cloud-takes-center-stage.aspx\">points<\/a> recently made by Satya Nadella, Microsoft\u2019s Executive Vice President of Cloud and Enterprise. In 10 years, I believe Microsoft will still be at the core of computing because the company is continuing to shape the industry with innovations such as the hybrid cloud based on its <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/server-cloud\/cloud-os\/default.aspx#fbid=rheBNHDDvrv?WT.mc_id=Blog_SQL_PASS_SQL2014\">Cloud OS<\/a>.
