To learn more about using Data-tier applications, <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql\/relational-databases\/data-tier-applications\/data-tier-applications?view=sql-server-2017\">you can read this documentation.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current experience combines the four separate wizards from SSMS into one wizard where users can choose which action they need to take. These actions include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Deploying .dacpac<\/strong> to SQL Server instance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Extracting SQL Server instance<\/strong> to a .dacpac<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Creating a database<\/strong> from .bacpac<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Exporting schema and data<\/strong> to .bacpac<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see <strong>Extract<\/strong> in action in the gif below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1005\" height=\"531\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/dacfx_gif.gif\" alt=\"a screenshot of a cell phone\" class=\"wp-image-25807\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In order to use this wizard, you will need to install the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/sql-server-import-extension?view=sql-server-2017\">SQL Server Import extension.<\/a> This is included with the Import Flat File Wizard, which is also a preview experience. To show the progress we&#8217;re making on our extensibility, we are excited to announce the new IDERA extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IDERA SQL DM Performance Insights is an Azure Data Studio (ADS) extension that will display key performance metrics for SQL Server that have been collected and stored in a database repository by <a SQL Diagnostic Manager<\/a>, a powerful performance monitoring, alerting, and diagnostics solution for SQL Server that proactively notifies administrators to health, performance, or availability problems via a desktop console, web console add-on, or mobile device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This extension is a free add-in for Azure Data Studio that quickly allows you to see high level aggregated performance issues across multiple servers monitored by SQL Diagnostic Manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This preview provides the following features:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul including improvements in the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/big-data-cluster\/notebooks-guidance?view=sqlallproducts-allversions\">Azure Data Studio Notebooks<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/relational-databases\/polybase\/data-virtualization?toc=%2fsql%2fbig-data-cluster%2ftoc.json&amp;view=sqlallproducts-allversions\">Create External Data Wizard.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"azure-data-studio-notebooks\">Azure Data Studio Notebooks<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Notebook view UI has moved into Azure Data Studio core. This improves performance when loading and updating a notebook, including Jupyter notebook compatibility.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The PROSE python package has been updated to 1.2.1 and includes a number of bug fixes. Use the Reinstall Notebook Dependencies command\u00a0in the command palette to update this package.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cells have a simpler look with just one Run Cell button on the action bar, a real context menu with additional actions on the right of the cell. If you have any issues running Profiler, please let us know on GitHub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"preview-results-streaming-for-large-queries\">Preview: Results streaming for large queries<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In previous versions of Azure Data Studio, when a user ran large queries, no results would appear in the results grid until the query could show all of the results. This was not a great experience for our users, thus we did some investigating to improve this experience. In the latest build of Azure Data Studio, users can now see results streamed in the results grid. This makes it a better experience since users can see the results quicker and interact with their data instead of being in a waiting state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"582\" height=\"378\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/12\/results-SQL-gif.gif\" alt=\"a screenshot of a social media post\" class=\"wp-image-25873\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, this is still a preview feature so it is disabled by default. To enable this feature when you are running large queries, you will need to go to File&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">&gt; Preferences &gt; Settings,&nbsp;and&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">Search Settings for &#8220;sql.results.streaming&#8221; and set this value to true. Then you will need to&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">restart Azure Data Studio.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please let us know of any feedback you have for this experience, we will continue to be making investments in improving Query Editor and the&nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">results grid in the upcoming months.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"user-setup-installation-support\">User Setup installation support<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now featured on the Azure Data Studio download page is user setup installation for Windows only. This downloads the whole executable for Azure Data Studio so you won\u2019t need admin privileges to install Azure Data Studio since the location will be under Local AppData folder. This also makes it easier to get monthly auto-updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We encourage users to download User Setup going forward.
