In addition, we want you to easily discover features such as our extensions or learn about the product through useful links and videos. We list the top most used features on the top including creating a connection, running a query, creating a notebook, or deployment. You can all view a history of your past resources when interacting with the product so that you can jump back into your work.<\/p>\n<p>We also have added useful links, videos, and top extensions that users can easily install.<\/p>\n<p>Try out the new Welcome page and let us know any feedback you have <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/microsoft\/azuredatastudio\/issues\">through Github.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Added new markdown toolbar for Notebooks<\/h2>\n<p>When working with notebooks, you may find yourself having to refresh your knowledge of markdown syntax. For many users who are not familiar with markdown, this can be a painful experience, and we would rather that you create great notebooks than having to worry about the syntax.<\/p>\n<p>With the April release, we are excited to announce the release of the markdown toolbar.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full \" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/markdowntoolbar.gif\" alt=\"a screenshot of the Markdown Toolbar\" width=\"955\" height=\"761\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<p>When a user edits a text cell, they will see a toolbar that includes many common markdown commands such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bold.<\/li>\n<li>Italics.<\/li>\n<li>Highlighting.<\/li>\n<li>Bulleted and numbered lists.<\/li>\n<li>Adding an image.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>When you click on a toolbar button, the toolbar will provide the markdown syntax for you whether you are highlighted on text or not. In addition, by pressing the button again, you can remove the syntax when you are proofreading your notebook.<\/p>\n<p>This has been a highly requested feature, and we are looking for additional feedback for this experience. We can add additional markdown support through this toolbar, so please submit an issue on Github and we will consider these feature asks.<\/p>\n<h2>Using KQL magic support in Notebooks<\/h2>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in;margin-bottom: .0001pt;vertical-align: baseline\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">KQL magic extension\u00a0support\u00a0is now available in Azure Data Studio Notebooks. It allows you to connect, query and explore Azure Data Explorer (Kusto),\u00a0ApplicationInsights\u00a0and\u00a0LogAnalytics\u00a0data using\u00a0kql\u00a0(Kusto Query Language).\u00a0If you are using Log Analytics today for your Azure SQL DB\u00a0as\u00a0described\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 9.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nam06.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Ftechcommunity.microsoft.com%2Ft5%2Fazure-database-support-blog%2Fazure-sql-db-and-log-analytics-better-together-part-1%2Fba-p%2F794833&amp;data=02%7C01%7Cv-teseal%40microsoft.com%7Ce74d828a1ebd42879eec08d7e703152d%7C72f988bf86f141af91ab2d7cd011db47%7C1%7C0%7C637231872739596380&amp;sdata=u5LQ1VtjZ6Ujdc2PHxW5Dyxju0%2BV5Kmj5rOWegOyb70%3D&amp;reserved=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\"><span style=\"font-size: 11.0pt;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif;color: #0563c1\">here<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"normaltextrun\">, you can now do log metric analysis using\u00a0KQL magic\u00a0in Azure Data Studio Notebooks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in;margin-bottom: .0001pt;vertical-align: baseline\"><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in;margin-bottom: .0001pt;vertical-align: baseline\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">KQL magic package can be downloaded from Manage Packages in Python Notebook or using pip install. In a Python Notebook in Azure Data Studio, load KQL magic using (%reload_ext Kqlmagic). Start connecting, querying, and exploring using %kql or %%kql for multi-lines.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in;margin-bottom: .0001pt;vertical-align: baseline\"><span style=\"font-size: 9.0pt;font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in;margin-bottom: .0001pt;vertical-align: baseline\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">KQL magic\u00a0allows you to see tabular results\u00a0similar to\u00a0SQL Notebook, where you can also have the benefits of exporting outputs to other formats\u00a0(csv, Excel,\u00a0JSON, XML)\u00a0and using the Charting functionality. You can also take advantage of rendering\u00a0charts directly with\u00a0plotly\u00a0for\u00a0richer\u00a0interactivity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph\" style=\"margin: 0in;margin-bottom: .0001pt;vertical-align: baseline\"><span class=\"normaltextrun\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/KqlmagicIntro.gif\" alt=\"a screenshot of a social media post\" width=\"1252\" height=\"833\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Check out Kqlmagic with the installation and <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/notebooks-kqlmagic\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">getting started guide here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Charting in SQL Notebooks can now be saved<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/2020\/03\/23\/the-march-2020-release-of-azure-data-studio-is-now-available\/\">In the previous release<\/a>, we announced charting support for SQL Notebooks. However, users were unable to save the charts they created. With this release, we now support saving charts in SQL notebooks.<\/p>\n<p>Now if you want to make sure your shareable notebook is perfect, now you can with this new functionality.<\/p>\n<h2>Announcing improvements to Azure Data Studio dashboards<\/h2>\n<p>Dashboards now have a new look and feel to help keep you organized, whether you\u2019re monitoring CPU usage through your custom insight widgets or accessing information from a dashboard extension you installed from our Extension Manager. Don\u2019t worry\u2014no matter how you\u2019ve personalized the old dashboard to fit your everyday responsibilities, the newly revamped version is already backward-compatible with your customizations.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full webp-format\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2.png\" alt=\"New Azure Data Studio dashboards\" width=\"2880\" height=\"1756\" data-orig-srcset=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2.png 2880w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-300x183.png 300w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-1024x624.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-768x468.png 768w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-1536x937.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-2048x1249.png 2048w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-330x201.png 330w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-800x488.png 800w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2-400x244.png 400w\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/dashboard2.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Though the base functionality remains the same, you\u2019ll notice that some elements have shifted around: \u201cTasks\u201d like <strong>New Query<\/strong> and <strong>Restore<\/strong> are now centrally located in a toolbar at the top of the dashboard, while extensions and other tabs can be accessed via a collapsible pane on the left.<\/p>\n<p>Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/sql\/azure-data-studio\/insight-widgets?view=sql-server-ver15\">the documentation here<\/a> to learn more about managing servers and databases with dashboard insight widgets.<\/p>\n<h2>Querying columns encrypted with Always Encrypted<\/h2>\n<p>This release introduces the initial set of capabilities to support <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/AlwaysEncrypted\">Always Encrypted<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/aka.ms\/AlwaysEncryptedwithSecureEnclaves\">Always Encrypted with secure enclaves<\/a>.\u00a0 You can now enable Always Encrypted and specify the enclave attestation properties for a database connection.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"attachment-full size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/sql-server\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/ae.gif\" alt=\"Always encrypted in Azure Data Studio\" width=\"732\" height=\"944\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once you have enabled Always Encrypted for the connection you can run simple queries that decrypt data stored in encrypted columns or queries triggering in-place cryptographic operations (if you are using Always Encrypted with secure enclaves). Column master keys stored in both Windows Certificate Store and Azure Key Vault are supported. Note that queries inserting data into encrypted columns or filtering by encrypted columns are currently not supported.<\/p>\n<p>While Azure Data Studio does not provide UI for managing keys and column encryption yet, you can leverage the built-in PowerShell for such tasks.
