The SQL Server community is, in a word, awesome. I\u2019ve never seen a user community come together like ours does to help each other get the most of the product, learn and share their experiences, and grow in their careers. And I\u2019ve never seen a conference quite like PASS Summit, organized by a fantastic volunteer team of SQL Server users for their SQL Server colleagues around the world.<\/font><\/p>\n

PASS Summit 2011<\/font><\/a> kicks off in Seattle in just one week. And everywhere you look \u2013 from the can\u2019t-miss keynotes, top technical sessions, and 2 full days of pre-conference seminars to the special events, after-hours activities, and networking focus \u2013 you\u2019ll see the creativity and power of community.<\/font><\/p>\n

Dr. David DeWitt<\/font><\/a> is back at Summit by popular demand to talk about \u201cBig Data,\u201d the topic selected by community voters, and top Microsoft executives <\/font>Ted Kummert<\/font><\/a> and <\/font>Quentin Clark<\/font><\/a> will be sharing exciting news next week first with our community members \u2013 those listening from the audience as well as those watching <\/font>live streaming of the keynotes<\/font><\/a> from wherever they\u2019re located.<\/font><\/p>\n

This year\u2019s record 170+ <\/font>technical sessions<\/font><\/a> and 14 day-long <\/font>Pre-Con workshops<\/font><\/a> were selected by our dedicated Program Committee volunteers with the help of community voting, which gave us five <\/font>Community Choice sessions<\/font><\/a> and 24 five-minute <\/font>Lightning Talks<\/font><\/a> as well.<\/font><\/p>\n

Community members are also the driving force behind Summit\u2019s <\/font>special events<\/font><\/a> and <\/font>after-hours activities<\/font><\/a>. We have nearly 40 seasoned Summit alumni serving as Big Brothers\/Sisters in a special <\/font>First-Timers program<\/font><\/a> for new Summit attendees. And volunteers are putting the final touches on the <\/font>Welcome Reception Quiz Bowl<\/font><\/a>, the annual <\/font>Women in Technology Luncheon and Panel Discussion<\/font><\/a> (also available via live streaming), the <\/font>PASSion Awards<\/font><\/a>, <\/font>Chapter<\/font><\/a> and <\/font>Birds of a Feather<\/font><\/a> lunches, <\/font>Kilt Day<\/font><\/a>, the <\/font>Photowalk<\/font><\/a>, <\/font>SQL Karaoke<\/font><\/a>, and much more.<\/font><\/p>\n

Microsoft has worked hand-in-hand with the community organizers to bring back the popular <\/font>SQL Server Clinic<\/font><\/a> with Microsoft CSS troubleshooters and SQLCAT experts, as well as the self-paced and instructor-led <\/font>hands-on labs<\/font><\/a>. And make sure you bring your questions and visit with members of the SQL Server Development Team, MVPs, MCMs, speakers, and other SQL Server and BI experts in the <\/font>Expert Pods<\/font><\/a>.<\/font><\/p>\n

The SQL Server universe is fortunate to have vendors who are truly community members and supporters, and our <\/font>sponsors and exhibitors<\/font><\/a> are eager to visit with current and potential customers and share information about their products and solutions in the PASS Summit Expo Hall.<\/font><\/p>\n

PASS Summit fever is in the air, and I\u2019m loving all the buzz as people share their excitement around the conference \u2013 like last week when folks were sending through great tweets to describe PASS Summit in a word: Nirvana, DBASummerCamp, Powerhouse, SuperbowlOfSQL, #SQLAWESOMESAUCE, \u2026 But my favorite was simply \u201cCommunity.\u201d Look forward to seeing you there!<\/font><\/p>\n
