What a pain

The lack of a clear cut installation procedure and source for the 2 different versions of the app made it complicated to set up. After a couple of wasted hours I was finally able to set up a Windows 10 laptop (two screens) and use a Windows 10 tablet as a touchpad minus the pinch zoom. Unfortunately the tablet's pen's clicks are not recognized as I intended to take handwritten notes directly but instead I have to switch to the native tablet applications and then share with laptop. I would certainly pay for a more robust app with more features.

Frustrating to install and only marginally useful

This was hard to get working correctly. I got the socket error message. This can be averted by adding both computers to a homegroup. (requires 8.1) It was difficult to find out how to do that correctly. Once I did it, the app worked, but the RT version is not nearly as good as the PC version. When you have two PCs connected with this app, it works great. You can move the mouse straight from one PC to the other. I could have a document open on my laptop, then slide the mouse to my desktop and open a web page there. Basically, I could control both the laptop and desktop with the mouse/keyboard on the laptop. With my Surface, the app only works if it's the only thing displaying on the screen. If I have a document open on the Surface, I can only control the Surface. To control the desktop with the Surface keyboard, I need to switch to the Mouse Without Borders app. It doesn't work if you snap the app. There's no field to type the passcode, but if you just type it, it should connect.

Wish I could get it to work

PC version between tablet and desktop works great. This version between tablet and desktop does not, I get error: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007271D) on Surface Pro 2 running Windows 8.1 Pro

Good start but needs some work

I use this to control my Win7 pc that I have connected to a TV with my surface 2. I would like to see a scroll wheel added at some point (Looks like it is the phone version). Also, when using this in portrait mode on my tablet it would be handy to always have the keyboard up and still be able to use the mouse functions. If you bring up the keyboard it seems to disable the mouse control. This makes sense in widescreen since it consumes so much of the space, but In portrait there is a lot of screen real estate to make use of even with the keyboard up. Would be great to have scroll wheel and maybe some function keys as permanent fixtures along with the keyboard on the screen. The setup is a bit tricky as well. You need to be sure to enable phone/tablet on the desktop program. I missed that part for a while trying to set it up to some frustration. Look forward to see how this app develops. It's good now, but it could be great!

RT/ModernUI needs a Desktop version equivalent!

I love MwoB, and use it religiously between my Surface Pro and Desktop PCs every day. But that's the desktop version itself. I wish the desktop functionality could be extended to RT without having to use a 'hack' (yes, you can get the 32-bit desktop version to run on RT, but it's a pain, plus you have to go thru a series of things with every time you reboot or log off then back on). For this version though, it makes a nice alternative to control the Media Center PC in my bedroom without having to move my Media Center keyboard from another room.

Doesn't work

Have the app on my laptop, and the laptop app keeps telling me I need to enter a security code, by right clicking the app in the system tray and clicking "Settings". There is no way to do this with the app. When I try to enter my laptop's IP, it can't connect... at all, and it's reeeally annoying. I don't know if this is a bug or what, but I would like some help with this please

Connects, but....

Updated Review: New version of Desktop Program ( allows Surface to connect to Win7 PC, but control is very laggy. Also as an App, the lack of information is discouraging. I do not expect many users will be resourceful to look for the solution on the website (include a help section within the App or something). Landscape only when the keyboard is attached or active (not folded back).

Works Great Surface RT to Windows 8 Laptop

Hooked my Laptop to my TV and wanted the Surface to control it. RDP almost worked but disables the video on the laptop which ruins it. This app allows me to control the laptop and view the laptop on the TV which works perfectly for me. Great for turning a tablet into a HTPC remote. Had to install the desktop version on my laptop and right click on the system tray in the laptop and enable tablet/phone control and it worked. Disconnects for first couple mins but keep connecting and it stabalizes

Please fix

I love mouse without borders on my Windows 7 machines. Unfortunately I'm not able to get the Windows 8 app to talk to my Windows 7 laptop... :( Not sure if it's the cross-OS or the way we have our wireless network setup (each devices is on a different access point of the same network). Additionally, the setup screen could use some design help...
