Best of the best

I purchased this laptop last summer and waited to write a review. My last laptop was HP Pavillion which is still going strong but I wanted a 13' for work and travel to carry around. I always do my DD on electronics and buy the best for the money. All my my printers have and are HP just as all my TV's are Samsung. Anyway this Spectre Signature Edition really lives up to all the hype and info provided from HP. Besides lQQking great, like out of a James Bond movie, the battery life is great, the speed of turning the system on to the time it is up and running is better than any PC or laptop I've ever owned. Simply no wait time. The back light on and off button helps in all situations. The colors are fantastic. The payment plan with no interest is a no brainer. USB connections to all my devices such as wireless mouse and back up external hard drives and CD players work without any issues what so ever. You will see cheaper laptop's advertised but you really need to compare the types of hard drives, the speed of turning on and overall performances and you'll see most others simply will not compare to this Spectre Signature.

Has everything I wanted, including a great price

I was going to buy a SurfaceBook, but I was concerned about the price. I own a Surface Pro 3 and had some problems with extending connecting to my TV at home with it. I also really wanted something with 3 USB ports so I could hook up a keyboard, mouse and external drive for backups at the same time. Works great. I also extend the monitor via the Display Port to a 27' on my desktop. This little guy fits all the bills. And it looks good, too. What I like: Light, fast (enough) and the audio port is really smart about plugging in headphones and the mouse pad is smart about plugging in a mouse. The touch screen has worked great and I really haven't had any problems to speak of. I run multiple copies of Visual Studio 2017 along with mobile phone emulators all simultaneously with no problems. This processor isn't as fast as my regular desktop, but when things get busy it steps up. What I don't like: This is the only laptop I've ever seen that didn't have a hole for a Kensington lock. Didn't know that at the time or I wouldn't have purchased it. Sometimes I work in a shared space or coffee shop and leaving the laptop unguarded is something I won't do. I've used these locks before and they prevent the spur of the moment casual snatch and that's all I am ever after. There are times when it has been on for a long time (and quite busy) that the top left corner of the base gets quite warm. I am careful about making sure the vents aren't blocked, so I just guess I'm driving it pretty hard. Hasn't failed on me yet, so I suppose I'm within tolerances. Never, ever thought I would buy another HP product after poor experiences in the past. Microsoft physical store return policy sealed the deal. Very happy with it so far (about 3 months).

Nice laptop but major screen issues

Bought the laptop 2 weeks ago on the first day after leaving it for an hour I noticed the mouse was frozen on the left side inside of a little one inch box nothing could get it to unfreeze had to restart the computer two days later same symptoms the day after that the screen is jumping around I've had enough send it back

Almost right

I bought this laptop in November as replacement for a returned Surface Book. Overall this laptop has been excellent but I'll get some cons out of the way. The touch screen started malfunctioning about six weeks after purchase where it exhibits what some have called ghost tapping in one part of the screen. If the laptop is left open for sometime, the ghost tapping begins and even activated programs if it happens to active buttons/hotspots/shortcuts under the affected area. Based on my research, this is a hardware problem and cannot be corrected through configurations or software. It's a long story, but my attempt to convince HP support that it is malfunctioning and that software doesn't fix it has not been successful. They offered to service the computer, but since the problem is intermittent, they will are likely to test it, say it works, mark it NTF, and return it. So my advice is keep this unit operating and open for long periods of time within the first 30 days of owning it - the return window for Microsoft. That way you can get it replaced. I'm stuck with mine. Second con is minor. The speakers just aren't very loud. This is not really an issue for me but it's a concern for some. Now for the pros. The fit and finish are fantastic. The screen quality is great: bright with rich colors. The keyboard has a great feel to it - quiet but decent travel and the island keys are a nice touch. I was worried about the giant touch pad for accidentally activated it, but it's not an issue thankfully, and I rest my wrist on the laptop when typing. I am a user of the 360 hinge on a regular basis (note: in tent mode, I wish there was rubber stoppers or some more sticky surface to grip a table top). I can't speak to the camera because I don't use it. My battery life is matching whats advertised. Generous ports, including HDMI comes is handy all the time.

Great Laptop

My husband bought this last year and he is very happy with it. Buying one for my son now with 16 GB

Disappointing QC

I really wish I could recommend this machine because it has lots of very nice features and on paper is very desirable. However, I'm on my third one in about 30 days. The first one came out of the box with a dent in the case. Immediately swapped that one for one which worked well for about two weeks, then started showing ghost touches about twice a week to the extent that it was impossible to continue using the machine without hitting the power button (couldn't use the cursor, the touchpad, or the touchscreen while the ghost touches were rapidly blinking and disabling all input methods). Brought it back to Microsoft two days ago looking for a fix and they said it was a hardware issue and swapped it. Machine number 3 started with ghost touches 24 hours later. Goodbye HP. Will likey settle for a Dell or Lenovo instead.

Cracked screen

Any person considering purchasing this product shopuld first review the HP support forum 'cracked screen on spectre x 360' regarding cracks appearing spontanuously on the screen.

Touch Screen Failed

I bought this computer 2 months ago. Worked great for 3 weeks. Really liked the features, great speed. Intuitive design. Really enjoyed using the touch screen and Active pen stylus. Problem came when touch screen stopped working. I called HP first, big mistake, they asked me to send the computer to them and I have not seen it in over a month. HP has not updated me directly, I have to call them each time and I usually get hung up on several times before speaking to a human being. They tell me it will be another 4 weeks before it is repaired. Microsoft store refuses to get involved in the problem. If you have a problem with one of these computers, call Microsoft first because once you take it up with HP, Microsoft will not help you and will leave you to fend for yourself, and HP has horrible customer service.

Almost perfect!

In less than a year, I've purchased from the Microsoft Store, a Surface laptop (horrible laptop, still too much auto-rotating/freezing even with a replacement) and an Alienware laptop (horrible laptop, bluetooth routinely 'disappears' every day or so--tech experts can't explain why or fix it even with a replacement), and now this HP laptop. The screen isn't quite as bright as the other two laptops and the bottom gets hot, but it's a great laptop because I'm not experiencing problems--bluetooth hasn't disappeared, the laptop hasn't frozen, and I haven't had to contact tech services PLUS this laptop has a larger SSD drive and cost LESS!

This is my second HP Spectre computer. I had the Silver one first then traded up to the beautiful bronze&gold! I had no real problems with the silver. Little things like the fan being a little loud and the device getting hot, but nothing that couldn't be corrected with changing how I used it. But when I got the bronze/gold...WOW! 16gb hard drive blows everything away. Not to mention a less that 7sec startup from off to login! This laptop is my entire office. There is absolutely NOTHING that this computer cannot handle. Money well spent!!!
