FAQ

What operating system does Surface Pro 4 run?

Surface Pro 4 runs full Windows 10 Pro. This means you can run your favorite programs, apps, and browsers.

Can I run multiple programs at the same time?

The Surface Pro 4 lets you multitask like a pro. Run Windows apps and as many desktop programs as you need simultaneously – they will even snap into place on your screen so you can use them all at once.

Does the Surface Pen that works with Surface Pro 4 work with other Surface devices?

Yes. With Palm Block technology and 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity, Surface Pen gives you a surprisingly natural way to mark-up documents and take notes in your own handwriting.

A great device once mature

I had a lot of issues last year with the device despite not being an early adopter and waiting until it had been out a few months (I got it around the anniversary update of W10). Last year I had tons of stability issues and gave it a poor review, but I realized that it's been behaving really well the last few months so they must have finally fixed them. Now that it's working correctly it's great! But I really feel like such an expensive flagship device should work correctly from the start, especially since it's first party hardware for their own software.

love the surface

I bought the surface 2 when it 1st came out and I loved it and then I upgraded to the 4 when it arrived and I love that to. on my trips I take the surface rather than my laptop. Id recommend the surface 4 to everyone. I started out with the IPAD but not having a USB port made it junk to me. I gave that to my G Kids and I've been with surface ever since

First real cover all jobs tablet/laptop easy to use

I replaced my MacBook Pro retina with Microsoft Surface Pro 4 because it is something more, lighter and have also the drawing pen and OneNote which is fantastic. I have 1TB with Office 365 (versus 5GB on iCloud) and using a Microsoft dongle with my projector I canceled the delay experienced with Apple TV. It works on 3 screens (2 external monitors (versus 2 on my apple). It is fast and Windows 10 is now a real competitor for Mac OSX. I am computer science mentor, teacher, architect and coder... And I am living in Java Universe not in C# one...

Use it every day - development, trianing, admin, etc.

Just a great device and highly recommend it. Its fast, light, sleak, etc. I literally do everything from software development to presentations to administrative work on it. Just awesome.

Great - When it works

Had 2 Surface Pros. After about a month or so, Pro 3 would not recognize keyboard. Replaced under warranty and upgraded to Pro 4. Pro 4 died after 1 year + 4 months ("Plugged in, not charging"). Yes, went thru all the troubleshooting, reset device, and even brought to MS service. Warranty was 1 year. Quoted about $500 for out of warranty replacement for a refurb with 90 day warranty, so basically out $1400. Expensive lesson.

Great idea but a poor product

I need a Windows based machine for work, and am a heavy Office user as a professional and a grad student, which was the draw to the Surface. It had everything I needed, and more, on the surface, no pun intended. However, this came at the price of dependability, with my first SP4 replaced within the first week. One year later, I am on device number 5, and have currently been attempting to get its issues resolved for over a month to no avail. It shuts down programs, won't save work, freezes and it downright a pain to deal with. I sit here typing this while on hold for the past 45 minutes with Microsoft for the second call of the night. IF you can ever get to the Global Escalation Team, you will have a glimmer of hope, but otherwise, be prepared to hear "we can't do that", " we have a 30 day return policy" and a ton of misinformation by tech support. At this point, all I want is a refund.

From a Senior Analyst's Prospective: Very Versatile

This is my 2nd surface tablet. I now have the i7 16GB 1TB version which can keep up! I work with heavy financial data and modeling, typically spreadsheets that are 2GB+ in size and may have 3-4 of those open at a time. Meanwhile, I'm running two 24in monitors via the docking station, streaming music, emailing, social media updates, connected phone, mining SQL, updating Tableau/PowerPoint and running a browser with +++ tabs open. Performance interruption is inline with my peers PC's but the big difference, I can bring everything listed above (less monitors) to the conference room, coffee shop, home, Uber, etc. With the HDMI dongle, I quick connect anywhere. My complaints: Excel can get the fan running load when saving heavy amounts of data back to the server, docking station has intermittent issues and (my version)way too expensive for home/personal/student use - all issues I put into comparison with my alternative Windows based PC/laptop choices and nothing is as versatile as this!

Cellphones are 4GB RAM now, still making 4GB laptops?

Why are you still making 4 GB RAM laptops like 5 years ago? I bought one 5 years ago with 4g RAM only about $300. I'll buy it if update it to 8 GB up same price.

A Tablet that IS a computer! Homerun!!

This product is great! It is a lightweight, versatile computer that comes in tablet form with the savings in battery life, weight, and friendliness. I got the pen, the docking station, the keyboard and WOW! It all works so great with my MS products- I give presentations all the time and Word and PowerPoint work fabulous and I can control the Surface like a projector. No HDMI but that is easily rectified with one connector.
