Very Poor Support Service from HP and Microsoft

Great phone, but the phone would not recognize any app that would allow a phone video calls. System device setting stated "no compatible apps" to allow a video call, this included Skype. Called HP for support, reset phone to factory setting with no change and they ended up saying I should contact Microsoft Store Support. All I got from Microsoft support was refer to the web site to answer my questions or transferred 7 seven times to different support staff and could not find I person to help. Returned the phone back to the Microsoft Store. Maybe HP and Microsoft need to improve their support services to address Windows 10 mobile configuration problems, instead of just hardware and operations.

Didnt work out of the box

Terrible support due to system, unable to talk with anybody. Love the phone software problem with Microsoft edge and Cortana. Sending phone back for replacement, still best phone on planet. will say this AT&T is the best and worked with me all day on this problem. Microsoft is over knighting new phone. great thanks.

Bad Phone, Bad Support, Bad Service

Purchased first phone on May 6, 2017 at Microsoft store Crystal City, VA; had issues from the start. Exchanged phone on the 19th at Aventura Mall Microsoft Store, same issues started two days later. Phone freezes and shuts down too often. Removed SD card to eliminate constant error message. Idea of phone is awesome, but with the lack of support from both HP and Microsoft it is truly a disappointment. Will be returning it this week.

Stay Away! Stay Far Away!

The only good thing about this device is its specs. Let me keep it simple. Pros: Very long battery life. I can get up to 3 and 1/2 days without charging if not being used for anything heavy duty. About 13-16 hours if regularly used. Screen is a very nice size and vibrant. Works with Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Cortana is pretty good. Outlook Email & Calendar is nice! Cons: Phone is very buggy! Dock mode has problems. Windows OS is not ready for prime. Very poor software marketplace. It has popular apps (Facebook, Twitter) but lacks a lot of commonly used streaming ones like YouTube, ITunes, Google Play. Camera blacks out sometimes. Memory cards cause the system to freeze and reboot. Enabling/disabling Bluetooth is very slow. Map App is very nice but crashes when 3D rendering mode is enabled. No available cases or accessories. Only 2 case manufacturers make cases for this phone and once you put it in a case, the phone cant be seated in the dock. Duh!

The best Windows mobile device I'd ever had

I'd been using Windows since Windows Phone 7 staring with Samsung focus, HTC, Focus S, HTC Titan, HTC 8X, Nokia Lumia 900, 920, 1020, Microsoft Lumia 640 xl, 950, and now the amazing HP Elite x3 a incredible phone, Windows mobile runs great on it. I was waiting for the surface phone but I think this is better than surface phone.

Best Windows Phone

Purchased for my wife. Her Lumia 950XL was making her insane (hangs, reboots, Bluetooth issues, etc.). Very pleased with the ELITE X3, stable, reliable and of very high quality. Uses all day and basically runs her business from it. Very pleased.

Bad online store experience, physical store better

I got my bundle with some parts missing and the box where the parts are contained doesn't really look fresh with cardboards torn and crumpled, protection plastic sleeves has been removed and kept back on. The main box was dented on the sides which show bad handling. I haven't tested the phone yet, I just hope its all in good working condition.

bluetooth and micro SD card are causing error. check out HP forum. everyone have problem w/ 'SD card was removed' error multiple times a day. the only work around is either don't use SD card or turn off your Bluetooth. till now, HP have not fixed this problem! they keep on insisting it was due to the card tray. guess what, I've had 2 trays and a X3 phones replaced, but still w/ the same problem! just stick with your Lumia XL. or wait for Surface phone!

An Excellent Cell Phone

I have had this phone for a month and I am very happy with it. Being an iPhone 6 plus user and having carried iPhones for many years, this made me a convert to Windows Mobile 10. The windows Mobile 10 interface is very elegant and easy to configure to your personal taste and use habits. The phone itself is well built and sturdy, yet very nice looking. The app selection is very good, but there may be some that get left behind on the iPhone. I suspect this will change with time as people find out how good windows phones are. The mapping and routing software is very comparable to Apple, but mine is having difficulty with the voice guidance. Have not had time to look into this glitch. If you are in bright sunlight, you may have to turn up the screen brightness and then you will be fine. I love the screen and touch response. I use OneNote, Office 365, and OneDrive, so this platform is a very seamless, yet portable extension of my desktop. Concerning the Continuum, it works very well and you can connect compatible Bluetooth keyboards and mice to the phone and then project it to a monitor wirelessly with miracast. You can make any monitor with a HDMI input into a video display for your phone. Microsoft sells a wireless adaptor as do others. If you don’t have a mouse or keyboard the phone screen cleverly becomes both. I bought the HP Lap Dock with the phone. It was expensive and I just didn’t see the value for it being little more than a display with keyboard and mouse pad. The battery kept going dead for some reason. Took it back and bought a 13” Windows 10 Laptop for less and now the phone and laptop are a great pair of highly functional devices. The battery life seems excellent. It goes for a long day with plenty to spare. Much better than my iphone. This phone can accommodate two sim cards so you can have two phone numbers on one phone. If you only need one phone number, the second sim slot can take a memory card instead. I use AT&T as my service provider and had to call them and tell them I switched from an iPhone 6 to the HP Elite X3 (the sim was interchangeable). This was necessary to get my mobile hotspot working. As soon as they changed the settings, I rebooted the phone and the hotspot was fixed. Cases are hard to come by. I found a Universal Wallet type (4.8”-5.7”) made by Skech that works. The phone goes in reversed such that one of the arms on the clamp is between the power and volume buttons. You must remove the phone from the case (very easy) to take photos with the rear camera. Found a variety of very affordable USB 3.0 to USB-C cables online in varying lengths made by AUKEY. You may wish to get a couple USB-C to USB-C as well. Just when you thought you had every cable. At the end of the day, I’m very pleased I made the switch and the learning curve has not been too steep. Yes, a few of my favorite apps were left behind, but the benefits were worth it.
