Lakshmi(12), lives in her village at the foothills of the Himalayas. When a monsoon destroys the family’s rice paddy, her stepfather negotiates an advance payment from a glamorous “city” woman who offers Lakshmi work as a domestic servant. Filled with hope and pride for the opportunity to help her family, she journeys to India. In Kolkata, she soon learns the unthinkable: she has been sold into prostitution. Lakshmi’s life becomes a living nightmare. She somehow has the courage to endure as she secretly plans a daring escape. Lakshmi succeeds in escaping and returns to the brothel in a police raid to free the others.
