This is the action-adventure you’ve been waiting decades for. After a lab accident, a scientist awakens in a mysterious, alien world. Is this a distant planet? The far future? Or a complex virtual-reality computer simulation? Plumb the recesses of a large, labyrinthine world in order to learn its secrets and uncover your role within it. Discover tons of weapons, items, and abilities, each with their own unique behaviors and usage. You’ll need your wits to find them all. Combat bizarre biomechanoid constructs, the deadly fallout of an ancient war, and the demons of your own psyche. And finally, break the game itself by using glitches to corrupt foes and solve puzzles in the environment. Life. Afterlife. Real. Virtual. Dream. Nightmare. It's a thin line. It's Axiom Verge.

A true classic to not miss

The sound effects, the music, story, and even the atmosphere brought on by the various types of regions and creatures is something to experience first hand. I found the difficulty to be a perfect balance between challenging and forgiving where it's rewarding to win and losing just means you can do better. Do yourself favor and do not let this generation slip by without playing this game.

Retro Classic Fun

The game seems like it may not be anything much to many but it is quite fun once you start it up. There is a story that once you get in you want to understand it, know more, and see it through. There are many types of weapons, upgrades, enemies, and places to explore. Not to mention a speed run mode. Many would remember it as a Metroid game and it is classic just like it. Only thing I would change is more map markers for reminders, and a small price drop. The price is what seems to scare people away from a game that is actually really good. Other than that I honestly have no complaints about it.

More like Metroid, less like Super Metroid

Axiom Verge is love letter to Metroid. The most impressive thing about it is that everything, including programming, art and music was created by a single person. It is defintiely worth a buy if you are into Metroivanian titles. Lots of exploration abilities, weapons, secret areas, and backtracking and a few challenging traversing areas if you want every last trinket. The boss difficulty is really unbalanced though. The hardest boss is midway through the game and then it just gets unjustifiably easy. Still a great game. Graphics are NES looking, same with audio. No voice work but a bit of modern text dialogue and a lot sci-fi jargon. My biggest complaint is that many of the secret areas are hard to find because some of the breakable walls aren`t consistent and backgrounds are not always fairly differentiated with foregrounds. First playthrough with 100% completion took me 23 hours and 51 deaths. Consulted walkthroughs a handful of times. Buy it.

Flawless Game to the Platforming Genre.

Axiom Verge is a game i hold close because i love difficult platformers. Theres a Huge Similuarity between this game and Metroid but ... the way Metroid is going it almost needs a reboot. This Game is Fresh ,Creative, and plays like a Classic NES game . The Original Sound Track is Fantastic and Reallys Sets this Mood i can't Describe. The boss Fights Are one of the best parts but the exploration aspect will have you searching every corner for upgrades , Abilitys and lore . All in All i had a good time with this game it reminds me of when they were good.

Must Play

Definitely pick this title up if you are a fan of old school metroidvania style games. Platforming feels tight and responsive and the level exploration is incredibly addictive.

Feels like metroid

If you loved super Metroid you will love this. Pure nostalgic throwback to a style of game rarely seen these days. Dont pass this one up. Already beat it on PS4 but so good I bought it again on my favorite console.

Panic Blitz

This is what games should be like. No hand holding, no get dropped into a big beautiful game world, and you either figure it out or you die. The controls feel good and intuitive, and the graphics and audio are gorgeous.

Worth the wait

I could have got it on other consoles but this is the one I chose to wait for. The real life story on its creation is just as good as the story in the game. So much to love.
