Description

CYC-Net started in the mid-1990’s as an eight member email-based discussion group of child and youth care practitioners, teachers and writers in South Africa, North America, Europe, the Middle-East and Australasia. By 1998 this group had grown to 200 and today stands at around 4000 members. The simple web site with which we started is today a comprehensive information repository of over fifty thousand text files. CYC-Net is a network of thousands of people around the world, of all shapes, colours, languages, interests and skills, who are involved in the care of children, youth and families who for some reason are being looked after – for part of the time or all of the time. Our colleagues in CYC-Net are involved in all aspects of the care and upbringing of young people, or in the wider programs in which we work — direct care work, foster carers, educators, recreation leaders, social workers, psychologists, writers, administrators, trainers, consultants ... CYC-Net is updated daily and receives hundreds of thousands of unique individual visitors each year. CYC-Net makes it possible for all of these people to stay in touch with each other around the world, with news and developments in the field, readings and writings from all areas of study and at all levels; in short, for practitioners, supervisors, teachers and learners to keep in touch and to share problems and situations along with methods and solutions for doing their work with children and youth. All of these people see themselves as workers and colleagues in their child and youth care practice and related work with challenged children and youth and their families, institutions and societies. The free website at www.cyc-net.org features - tens of thousands of freely accessible text pages - hundreds of issues of our monthly online professional journal CYC-Online - Direct, free access to the member e-mail-based discussion group, where members may ask for any information or advice related to the field and view all queries and replies - News related to children and youth and those in care and their carers from around the world. - A twelve-part selection of more in-depth features including articles, reports, opinion pieces, viewpoints, special focus articles, press releases, selected archives, cartoons ... - Podcasts concentrating on practice from various countries - Information and extracts from selected CYC journals. THE LEARNING ZONE To provide on line learning for direct care workers or to supplement classroom seminars and accessible world-wide, The Learning Zone offers 50 e-Learning Modules addressing direct practice, supervisory and outcome themes for child and youth care workers. THE CYC-NET PRESS A dedicated CYC publishing service, which offers special terms to authors contributing to the field and distribution possibilities related to CYC-Net’s world-wide coverage …see http://cycnetpress.cyc-net.org
