Description

For installer based conversions Desktop App Converter requires you to obtain a Windows 10 base image (.wim) from the Microsoft Download Center. Please visit https://aka.ms/converterimages to obtain the base image matching your host operating system. Desktop App Converter is a tool that enables you to bring your existing desktop apps written for .NET 4.6.1 or Win32 to the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). You can run your desktop installers through the converter in an unattended (silent) mode and obtain an Windows app package that you can sideload on your machine or upload to the Windows Store. This developer tool is required to be run under administrative privileges!

• No-Installer conversion - If your app is installed using xcopy or you’re familiar with the changes your app’s installer makes to the system, you can run conversion without an installer by setting the -Installer parameter to the root directory of your app files. The -AppExecutable parameter is required in this case. • App package validation - Use the new -Verify flag to validate your converted app package against Desktop Bridge and Store requirements • Icon Extraction - DAC now automatically uses icons in your app installer to generate visual assets used when your converted app is deployed. • Support for auto-signing the converted apps produced by the Desktop App Converter.

Doesn't work

It gets stuck on the "Waiting for Installer process to complete inside isolated environment" step... I tried it with my project and a newly created empty project. The result didn't change.

Not updated to work with Insider Builds fast enough

tool works, but is really difficult to keep environment sync since insider program can only be turned off for 7 days and silently upgrades. Build 14955 does't work with current desktopapp converter

Does not work

Tried to install it per the directions. I ran it as an administrator, but it fails to run; the error says that it is a version problem. I opened a ticket with Microsoft some months ago. They made some suggestions that did not work, then stopped making any more. Since I cannot make it work, it rates one star.

Very useful tool! :)

It is executed on the installer of a Desktop App and it generates the converter, .appx file, that can be published in Windows Store!

Problems in Setup

Good idea. The problem is that if the setup is aborted then the app does not work even if the app is reinstalled. If there is a recovery option for version 1.1, that will be workable.

Won't run on Win10 Anniversary Update

I get the following error when run on my Windows 10 Anniversary Update system: "Program 'DesktopAppConverter.exe' failed to run: The specified executable is not a valid application for this OS platform." This is despite the fact that I can run the tool from the ZIP download just fine. Only the Store App is failing.

PowerShell Example is Needed

Show an example with the PowerShell script for a Windows Desktop App. The script I uses fails to make the .appx file and the other required folders and files.
