It works well

Overall the app has a simple feel, which is pretty appreciable, but sometimes makes it a little less convenient. But it is still easy to use, and very helpful for translating. Though my attempts to use the handwriting feature have been unsuccessful.

a simple app that is quite good.

shows many words that the kanji that you are looking for is a part of. Aids learning other kanji instead of the older system of rote memorization.

great kanji lookup, especially with a touchscreen!

I was surprised to see how well the kanji handwriting recognition works... it hasn't failed me yet! Rather than the usual methods of inputting the number of strokes and looking up radicals, I just draw the kanji (just using my finger and not doing it very neatly) and the potential matches appear below. So far the first match has been spot on for every character I've looked up, some of which were pretty complicated! You can also use keyboard input or copy/paste of course, seems like a good dictionary in general but for me being able to draw the character (with okurigana if needed) and see what it is makes this my new favorite studying tool! :)

I take a few hours to study and this app makes learning new kanji and their various readings much easier. This has earned a spot on my limited tile space.

Indispensable for any student of Japanese

I have this app for my Lumia 920 and it comes in handy unbelievably often. As a relatively new student and speaker of Japanese, whenever I run into a series of kanji I don't know, I am usually unable to snap-read the phrase. This set of applications has both made it possible for me to read without asking my teacher every five seconds what a word means and has expanded my vocabulary hugely. I highly recommend.

Intuitive controls and beautiful interface

I found the interface to be simple to use and great to look at. My favorite part about the app is the handwriting portion. I can write kanji on my Surface and the app will recognize the kanji. However, I need to work on my handwriting skills... Anyhow, great app for those looking to learn kanji or expand their abilities!

App breaking bug

Nothing returns search results even the most basic words don't return any results...It was great beforehand aside from not being an offline app, but this absolutely needs to be fixed...

Allows You to Look Up Unknown Kanji By Drawing

A very useful app in which you can hand drawn kanji or compounds, stroke by stroke, and then view the meaning of the kanji or compound, examine stroke order, pronunciations, and other words that use them. In Japanese you can search by handwriting and kana (but not romaji--the 'A' tile is for English input, which is also nice if you know the English meaning of the word but not the Japanese one). Two things that would make it a perfect app: 1) an offline mode, 2) sample sentences.

Beautiful and Functional

I love this app! I've begun to use it daily for my Japanese class. I specifically love the design, the stroke order for kanji, and the handwriting search for kanji that I don't know any readings of. I only really wish it had roumaji search for some of my classmates who feel too lazy to install the Japanese IME on their PC's. As a cool feature suggestion, I'd like to see maybe some sort of animated stroke order where it slowly draws out the kanji for you, little pics are kind of hard to see.

Only good if you always have WiFi. Also sluggish.

This app could be really great - its ui is clean, and professional. However, it would be significantly improved if it stored the dictionary right on your machine. As it stands, if you are traveling and come across a kanji you don't know, you have to wait until you get home to search it. Also, the kanji writing/recognition system needs to be dedicated to its function, not poorly bundled with other handwriting systems, and it's sluggish and... problematic. Translations need work too.
