Description

You take another drink as the canvas looms in front of you. A light flickers dimly in the corner. You’ve created countless pieces of art, but never anything like…this. Why haven’t you done this before? It seems so obvious in retrospect. Your friends, critics, business partners—soon, they’ll all see. But something’s still missing… You look up, startled. That melody… Was that a piano? It sounded just like her… But, no—that would be impossible. She’s gone. They’re all gone. Have to focus. How long has it taken to get to this point? Too long, but it doesn’t matter. There will be no more distractions. It’s almost finished. You can feel it. Your creation. Your Magnum Opus. Dare you help paint a true Masterpiece of Fear? Layers of Fear is a first-person psychedelic horror game with a heavy focus on story and exploration. Delve deep into the mind of an insane painter and discover the secret of his madness, as you walk through a vast and constantly changing Victorian-era mansion. Uncover the visions, fears and horrors that entwine the painter and finish the masterpiece he has strived so long to create. Features: • Psychedelic horror – A sense of insanity means each turn of the camera may completely change the look of your surroundings. • Original and classic art – Numerous pieces of original art and music flesh out the story and environment. • Story-focused exploration – Only through exploring the environment can you uncover the details of the painter’s dark and tragic past. • Victorian setting – Explore a game world inspired by masterpiece paintings, architecture and décor from the 19th century.

Gothic Psychadelic Horror Masterpiece

First off this game is gorgeous. Second, this game has very cool jumpscares. The story is even better, telling the story of a broken family and the effects that mental illness has on a genius. The game as you go forward grows darker and darker and the world around you starts to take a nightmarish look. The game will have questioning your existence and world in this game. Now this game has some problems like the process of getting another ending and how the game gets to stop being scary after awile. But mark my words this game is incredible and if you really enjoy it check out the Inheritance DLC that takes you into a different perspective and art style.

Very much a psychological horror

This game has one of the best dark/scary tones ever for a psychological horror. The game does great messing with your head. Along with the presence of horror, you need a great soundtrack... This game delivers, giving a fantastic dark soundtrack that sometimes leaves you in the main menu listening or in game enjoying it all. They made some horrifically amazing paintings that will raise your eyebrow and make you think "that's weird and disgusting". The story is told great from the pov of the dad/husband. I would have to say my favorite thing was seeing how his insanity progressed and how his perspective of the house gets into a worsened state. My word of advice to all that play is... You NEED to finish the game and get all 3 endings, (worth it) there is a variety of choices in where to go so have fun. Also make sure you collect all memory items, rat drawings, and letters/art. Enjoy this horror game because there aren't many as good or better than this. Definitely one to remember! -Joey U

True Insanity

The gameplay for this title is extremely slow paced, yet it shows what insanity would look like if you could actually see it. I enjoyed the ending because it was equally satisfying as it was disturbing. It could've used more puzzles though, just to keep it a bit more interesting. By the end I was almost wanting it to be over because of anticipation while at the same time because of a lack of action or required thinking. Overall it's a good game but might not be the best choice for everyone. Personally I enjoyed it.

Great Horror Game

Some people complain about how slow the game is or how they cant do much but look around and walk in this game. The thing is, that's the point of this game and makes it better than other horror games. It's very psychological. Any time I felt like the game was starting to repeat, it would twist and surprise me. I haven't been this scared in a long time. The trick to getting the full experience is to take your time and explore everything slowly. I promise this game will raise goosebumps, widen your eyes, and get your heart racing. Some parts might make you not want to open the door or look at that only thing lit up in the room, but to get further, you have to. I had to pause the game many times and take a few breaths before moving on. Sometimes my fear level got too high to continue and I had to stop and play something else haha. The controls do take a little time to get the hang of, but it's worth it. Great game and I'll be recommending it to everyone.

Underwhelming

I was very excited to play this game, but after the first hour or two, it lost its scariness as most jump scares seemed very predictable. Also the framerate is slow when you look around. Even though it was annoying for a good while, I eventually got used to it. The story was fairly interesting but I dont think it was worth my time or money; got the game for $8. To be fair though, I had heard it was a really good game, so maybe it just didnt live up to the hype for me which doesnt necessarily mean its a bad game in my book.

SLOW START, BUT BE PREPARED TO GET YOU ADRENALINE GOING

DO YOU LIKE SCAREY MOVIES?!? This game is guaranteed to get your heart pounding and want to put on a night light for bed. Slow start, and seems boring, but wait till you dive into the brain of the main character. Miss something, great replay value. The game changes as you replay (I remember this door, something jumped at me before, wait, not this time weird, oh well....You turn around and something grabs you!!! That didn't happen in the first playthrough?!? GENIUS:)

It IS a fun game

Fist off, this isnt a highly interactive game like RES EVIL r other zombie horror games. theres still lots to do tho, many ways to play and diff scenes depend where you go, or look. there isnt any super dif puzzles just the thrill of sitting in the dark with headphones (recomended) a friend r 2 searching dark corners and admiring the great artwork n scenery, awesome visuals and gettig scared shtless every other room. Its agreat game for what it is and now FREE!? Even if it wasnt id recommend 2 buy. cost about the same as a movie night only more fun! overall awesome game. only complaint is i wish it was longer. and controls lil sluggish. for when u here sum 1 behind u but cant turn round fast enough. you can change in settings but a fine tune would make it a lil better. Great job to all who helped make this game. I APPROVE!!!

Scary and Beautiful

Very scary game with lots of jump scares! The underlying story is wonderful with tons of collectibles revealing the plot in bits and pieces. It's a beautiful game that's easy even for a casual gamer, but FUN for all fans of horror games. The game does often dip below 30 FPS with the rare stutter due to the level of detail, but that doesn't stop this game from giving you chills and goosebumps from head to toe. I'd recommend playing with the lights off and either a headset, or the volume way up for the best experience. This game is deserving of two thumbs way up 👍👍

Horrifyingly Beautiful with Unexpected Twists

This is an amazing game with a psychological twist that makes gameplay more interesting. Its unique in that its a visual game and it still manages to keep you on edge by simply observing your surroundings. You can also play multiple times for new and different outcomes. Loved it!
