Mindless Metroidvania

Two simple changes would make all the difference; add an evade and remove most of the health kits. The "Mario coin" amount/placement of health kits is insulting, lazy design. And once you get the ability to reflect projectiles, you just spam X to win.

Old-School Fun

I am loving this game so far [though, to be honest, I have not finished just yet.] It plays a lot like the old Ninja Gaiden titles from the 8bit days -which I loved for having a fairly simple approach while also being a challenge- but with the depth and polish of current-gen titles. If you are looking for a nice blend of old and new, STRIDER hits very nearly all of the right notes, and whatever is not perfect in my experience with it so far is only that degree of repetition in some aspects of the gameplay inherent to the hack-n-slash/action platforming genres. So, with that said, you really cannot go wrong spending some time withthis title.

The game has blazing speed and nice visuals. The story is ** hum thus far, but the story is not the focus of the game. It is simply enjoyable, and is a good time killer.

Classic gaming done right

Strider is a perfect mix of every game in the series (even borrows from US Gold's horrible Strider II). The gameplay is fast and the controls are spot on. The only bad parts are the single save slot and no new game + option. However, there are extra game modes that allow for extended gameplay beyond the end game. If games like Shadow Complex or Castlevania appeal to you, I highly recommend picking this up.

Strider is an awesome Metroidvania that plays like a dream. The presentation is very campy, but it totally fits with the over-the-top action. The story mode is a little short, but this also means your time is never wasted. The whole game is the good part of the game!

Nice but...

wouldv'e been better if there was an option to keep your abilities to replay the story. The old school 2d fighting was cool, brought back shinobi/ninja gaiden memories on the Nintendo. Still a fun game, hopefully if there's a sequal it's in 3D!
