Great... when it works

Having the economist available offline on my surface pro when traveling is great, but the app is extremely unstable and seldom seems to work offline. Now I have started taking my papercopy on flights once again! Expect more from a business of such reputation.

Economist should read these reviews... and fix this app

The app is great... when it works... which, sadly, isn't very often. Like so many others, I'm frustrated by the inability to download issues for offline reading - a feature that has worked only once during my five-week-old subscription. Worse still is that it often won't even let me advance to the next article - even with an active internet connection -so I'm constantly restarting the app. I know The Economist is aware of these issues, because they've told me as much. But it appears they are unable - or unwilling - to fix them. Great magazine, but the terrible app makes a digital subscription all but useless.

This app rarely works

Frustrating to pay for digital access but not be able to use it. Not only won't it download for offline use (despite the commenter who said it was "simple," there is no option to check - the app simply tries and fails to load the content), it won't even load for online reading. Please make this work!

It used to run well (approx. 2 years ago), but these days it hardly works at all. I try to use it with a Windows Tablet and it works kind of okay when you have Wifi access, but it doesn't download the content anymore for offline reading. That is really the point of using the app. When I have internet access I might as well use the website. I have the same issue with my Laptop (I7, 16 GB, 2 SSD with total of 768GB). I absolutely don't recommend using the app, because it will not download and retain the content of any of the the issues (of if it does, it takes forever).

Frustrated with digital edition

When it works well, it is great. But way too many crashes and failures to load current editions for off-line reading.

Wonderful app for win10

If you have subscription, this is the app for Win10!

Platform: Mobile

Prettier than its iOS android versions

The UI is prettier and makes more sense on the windows phone version than its iOS android versions. But the downloading of issues is a pain.

Frequent crashes and download problems

As a digital only subscriber, it's really frustrating when an issue won't fully download -- and gets stuck there. Worse, when it downloads just fine and look available to read offline but when you get on a plane the app suddenly needs to look for updates or reinstall. One of these happens to me more than 75% of the time. Annoying to pay for digital subscription I often can't use. Please address this; it's been going on too long.

Slow, lacks features, audio won't play under lock

Slow app, very sluggish. Would like to see better performance, and more options for storage, especially the audio, which doesn't play under lock screen or in the background like the android app.

Offline bug is a serious drawback

I love this magazine. I wish I could say the same about the app. The biggest and most obvious problem is the lack of offline capability, which I'm certain is a bug of some sort. I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to access any magazine that I've downloaded to my computer; and, indeed, I can, until the app resets, at which point it won't let me read those anymore. This has been a problem for a while and I can't imagine takes this long to fix. The other problem is more minor and subtle, but has to do with the interface itself. When scrolling through and selecting articles, I often have to tap my finger EXACTLY in place in order to actually open an article--otherwise it just scrolls and jiggles the menu, which is annoying. The Economist is a good journal. It deserves a better viewer than this.
