Good content but quite a few quirks in app
Great to have this content presented in a handy application. Navigation seems a bit unintuitive though - constant horizontal scrolling. Also, articles appear to be incomplete: I frequently see paragraphs that end mid-sentence followed by new paragraphs that start a new sentence. Seems as if sections of the articles are missing. Update: last update (early Nov. 2012) seems to have addressed the missing content issue.More
Miserable user experience
The application constantly displays a connection problem error in spite of having a live, working connection. Articles are almost always missing a big chunk in the middle - they use a 2 column format but apparently don't constrain the height of the first column, or provide a scrollbar to view the content that doesn't fit in 1080 pixels.More
Ouch Hard To Read Text
Yeah, not a fan of this app at all. It's hard on the eyes, text is too small and white on a funky background. Reading the article title and summary is fine, but when you drill down into the article, it's impossible to read...hopefully they make it better.More
Great App, Snarky Content
For an IT news site with a decidedly anti-Microsoft editorial bias, The Register has delivered some early and solid apps for Windows 8 and Windows Phone. I'd prefer to see a few UI tweaks (such as the ability to remove the background graphic) but all in all this app is a great complement to the content. If you're using Windows 8 and want some often humorous, sometimes off-colour, and always irreverent IT news, this is the app for you.More
App is bad, content is worse
The app crashed on my high-end machine when opened. Oh well; I guess I'll just reload it. So I open it up - and what do I see? The worst content I've seen in years. Rabid anti-Microsoft fans rant about how Windows 8 will be the end of Microsoft. Really? You stoop to the level of - no, lower than - the trolls that stalk the Windows blog for new posts to troll. Your content is atrocious, and your writing is such low quality, I'd prefer to read a Chinese manual in Comic Sans to reading it. Ugh.More
App is reasonably fine; prose is awful
Articles repeat across sections, but other than that, the app is fine. The articles are replete with very localized slang, and the tone of several articles is dismissive of the subject matter. It reads like a cheap tabloid. Case in point: frequent use of the term "boffins", even in headlines. The equivalent term in North America is "eggheads". A responsible journalist wouldn't use either term, except in a quote.More
Text too small and the background makes it hard read.More
Wow, don't bother.
Hard to read and it crashes a lot. Just pin a shortcut in metro to your start menu.More
The app works but says "unable to refresh feeds"
The news is good - the app is terrible - everytime says "unable to refresh feeds - please check your connection" even though internet and wifi are perfect and the feeds are updating ok. Wait until they fix the major bug.More
