CSED Week | MANCODE for African American and Latin Boys (2 hours), Grades 3+

Designed to inspire K-12 students to take an interest in computer science, our CSED Week experiences are FREE and open to all! Events will feature unique daily themes, guest speakers and virtual workshop activities – all created with diversity and inclusion in mind, to be intentional in reaching underrepresented communities and students. 

Come celebrate Computer Science Education Week with this free two-hour workshop where underrepresented male students ten and older to create a video game with MakeCode Arcade. Students learn fundamental game and coding concepts—like sprites, variables, and coordinates—and use their new skills to create and customize a playable game.   

By the end of the workshop, students will have:  

  • Learned and used key game design and coding concepts 

  • Shared their games with a partner for inspiration 

  • Published their game via https://arcade.makecode.com/hour-of-code-2021 so they can continue to play and develop it after the workshop  

They will hear from a male mentor who works in technology and find out that a successful career in technology is within their reach.
