Windows Defender Antivirus detects and removes this threat.
This threat is a multi-component malware that uses a rootkit component and NetFilter drivers to intercept all network traffic on the machine. It does this primarily to inject ads. However, we have observed that this malware’s code is continuously being improved, with new features added every month. This means that attackers can shift this threat’s purpose.
Use the following free Microsoft software to detect and remove this threat:
- Windows Defender Antivirus for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, or Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
- Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool
You should also run a full scan. A full scan might find hidden malware.
Use cloud protection
Use cloud protection to help guard against the latest malware threats. It’s turned on by default for Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender Antivirus for Windows 10.
Go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Defender > Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection> Virus & threat protection settings, and make sure that your Cloud-based Protection settings is turned On.
