So I\u2019m writing to let you know that a solution has been available for the past year and is highly encouraged as an upgrade. <!--?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = \"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office\" ?--><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<h1 style=\"margin:24pt 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size:x-large\"><span style=\"color:#376092\"><span style=\"font-family:Cambria\">Context<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<div style=\"margin:0in 0in 10pt\">\n<span style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\">When a <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windowsserver2008\/en\/us\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\">Windows Server<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\"> is running older versions of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.symantec.com\/business\/products\/family.jsp?familyid=endpointsecurity\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\">Symantec Endpoint Protection 11<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\"> or <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.symantec.com\/business\/antivirus-corporate-edition\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\">Symantec Antivirus 10.2<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:medium\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">, they may experience performance issues for network shares, or intermittent loss of connectivity to SMB shares.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re hoping we can help you avoid a costly and time consuming support incident by making this issue more visible to help you plan your deployments.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span>\n<\/div>\n<h1 style=\"margin:24pt 0in 0pt\"><span style=\"font-size:x-large\"><span style=\"color:#376092\"><span style=\"font-family:Cambria\">Solution<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<div style=\"margin:0in 0in 10pt\">\n<span style=\"font-family:Calibri;font-size:medium\">If you are running older versions of Symantec Endpoint Protection 11 and Symantec Antivirus 10.2 you should get the solution from Symantec. style=\"color:#376092\"><span style=\"font-family:Cambria\">Symptoms<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/h1>\n<div style=\"margin:0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size:medium\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">The symptoms are varied, but many can be traced to lost connectivity issues to servers running this software.<span>\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Here is what we\u2019ve learned about the problem by examining case notes from Microsoft support: <span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpFirst\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Symantec Endpoint Protection versions prior to 11.0.4202 (MR4-MP2). <span>\u00a0<\/span>Older versions of <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.symantec.com\/business\/antivirus-corporate-edition\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;font-family:Calibri\">Symantec Symantec Antivirus<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\"> (prior to 10.2) can also cause this problem.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The problem occurs when you have the Autoprotect feature enabled in the applications.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">The problem can affect 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2003, 2008 and 2008 R2.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">The problem is intermittent, can affect client connectivity within hours to up to a week after installing the applications.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Usually a server reboot will restore connectivity for a short period before the problem happens again.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>You generally are able to ping and RDP to the server when the issue occurs, but shares are inaccessible using either \\\\IPADDRESS or \\\\ServerName\\Share operations.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 10pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpLast\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">The problem results from a deadlock in SRTSP.SYS or SRTSP64.SYS in a push lock operation, which then causes blocked kernel mode server threads handling SMB negotiation requests.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Network traces will show the server not responding to the SMB dialect packet.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin:0in 0in 10pt\"><span style=\"font-size:medium\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Here are the most common symptoms you may experience that may help you diagnose this issue.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Note that if you have this software installed, the easiest troubleshooting step to determine if this is the cause of connectivity issues is to simply remove the software and reboot the server.<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpFirst\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Error message: \u201cThe <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/948732\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;font-family:Calibri\">network path was not found<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">\u201d or \u201c<\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/961293\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;font-family:Calibri\">The specified network name is no longer available<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">\u201d when attempting to open shares, map a drive, run DCDIAG to the to the affected server, use netdom to reset secure channel<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Error message: \u201cRPC Server is unavailable\u201d when trying to connect via Active Directory Users and Computers<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Error message: \u201cRPC Server is too busy to process the request\u201d when attempting to join the Windows server domain<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Error message: \u201c<\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/service1.symantec.com\/SUPPORT\/ent-security.nsf\/ppfdocs\/2005062312163948\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"color:#0000ff;font-family:Calibri\">No network provider accepted the given network path<\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">\u201d or \u201cFile or network path no longer exists\u201d when copying a file over the network to affected servers<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in 0in 0pt 0.5in;margin:0 0 .0001pt .5in\" class=\"CxSpMiddle\"><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-family:Symbol;font-size:10pt\"><span>\u00b7<span style=\"font:7pt 'Times New Roman'\">\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"line-height:115%;font-size:10pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri\">Printing issues (cannot update printer IP address via DNS)<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-indent:-0.25in;margin:0in
