AKOLogic and VGI bring efficiency and sustainability to agriculture with Microsoft

One of the main environmental concerns in agriculture is the fact that the sector is a leading contributor to the rise of CO2 levels in the atmosphere. Traditional crop production practices often rely on artificial chemicals that can harm the environment, cause land degradation, and damage ecosystems. But the State of Israel, a world leader in agriculture and water management, is committed to making the industry more sustainable. By collaborating with the Microsoft Israeli Development Center, Israeli organizations like AKOLogic and VGI are bringing technological innovation and sustainability to farming.

Akologic

AKOLogic is the world's most advanced intelligence engine for agriculture, helping farmers across sectors manage their resources effectively. “AKOLogic is a technological company with the mission of bringing technological progress to the world of agriculture,” explains Ron Shani AKOLogic CEO, “We create real environmental and economic value to partners throughout the value chain, from farmers to retailers.”

Monitoring sustainability

AKOLogic’s solutions bring reliability and transparency to the value chain in agriculture to help maximize its output. “With Microsoft Cloud for Sustainability, we created an efficient way to monitor and document activity in the field using a growing protocol. We help thousands of farmers around the world reduce carbon emissions by accurately measuring and dispensing the pesticides, fertilizers, water sources and various agricultural inputs they use,” says Shani. Farmers and food chain operators use AKOlogic’s system to monitor every piece of produce, standardize operations, and maintain environmental standards. With features like automated tasks and instructions, reporting and inventory management, the platform has helped farmers save time and resources, and improve the quality and quantity of field crops.“Our vision is a world where every package has a QR code, giving buyers reliable information on the source and quality of produce, ensuring green growth and quality,” adds Shani. The solution also generates carbon credits, permitting farmers to generate a certain amount of greenhouse gasses. After a successful cooperation with a USA regulator, AKOLogic is also working on automating the entire carbon credit generation process.

While AKOLogic empowers farmers to ensure food quality and sustainability, its partner VGI strives to minimize dependency on polluting chemicals in farming. “VGI brings technology and years of extensive knowledge to the improvement of agricultural crops in Israel and beyond,” says Hagai Raban, Agricultural Development Manager and Chief Agronomist at VGI. “We’re working with Microsoft towards offsetting carbon emissions by developing alternative solutions for nourishing plants.” Using VGI's innovative solution, farmers who promote sustainability will be able to offset their carbon automatically and receive a carbon credit as a result.

Eliminating harm and pollution

VGI develops, produces and expands access to ‘Biostimulants by extracting organic compounds that enhances metabolic processes inplant tissues and soil biota, and promotes healthy plant growth. Because VGI products are natural, they do not cause any harm to humans, plants or animals. “VGI preparations have been shown to be effective in increasing agricultural output while reducing reliance on processes that release carbon into the atmosphere,” explains Raban. “This benefits the populations of microorganisms residing in the soil and enhances soil fertility.”

VGI's efforts to promote sustainability in the agriculture industry demonstrate a commitment to creating a more sustainable future for all. By empowering farmers and food chains with solutions to increase efficiency with minimal effort while reducing their environmental footprint, the company is helping to ensure that the agriculture sector can continue to thrive while also protecting the planet. “We expect that the current collaboration between AKOLogic, VGI and Microsoft will make our knowledge and products accessible to a variety of organizations,” says Raban. “This, in turn, can help us respond to global challenges and drive sustainable agricultural production.”
