Polish construction group Budimex was struggling to collect data from various work sites across the country. To improve process efficiency and data visibility, Budimex built mobile applications using Power Apps. With a solution for employee task management, workload, and salary calculation, Budimex now takes 15 minutes instead of an hour to prepare monthly reports. Other apps for subcontractor machine workloads further reduced reporting times by more than 85 percent.
Budimex is one of the largest construction groups in Poland. The company’s infrastructure projects span from roads, railways, and commercial and residential construction to energy, industry, and ecology. “We work towards sustainable development of the economy and society,” begins Marcin Pogorzelski, Logistic and Construction Equipment Manager at Budimex.
To ensure that all construction projects across many locations run smoothly, Budimex collects mountains of data on the state of the machines, the employees and other details. “Previously, we used Excel sheets to collect data and handle various processes, which was time-consuming and prone to errors,” explains Pogorzelski.
Choosing reliable, supportive partners
Budimex decided to build new solutions to streamline data collection and reporting. “So, we chose to build applications on Power Platform, using Power Apps. We knew that we could easily integrate the Microsoft 365 applications we were already using with our new solutions. This lowers the barriers to entry for our employees because of the familiar environment,” explains Tomasz Wiśniewski, IT Specialist at Budimex.
Budimex reached out to partner Developico for help with the development of the solutions. “Microsoft provided strong support and a high-quality platform,” says Tomasz Stanikowski, IT Specialist at Budimex. “And Developico supplied the appropriate technical competence, understood our needs, and provided tailored solutions.”
One of the first solutions built was an app for assigning tasks to employees, measuring efficiency, and recording their workloads to calculate salaries. “Previously, we did this with Excel sheets. It took 20 minutes just to refresh the reports for payroll,” says Stanikowski. “Now the entire process is automated, taking us 15 minutes instead of an hour to prepare a salary report.”
Another application enabled construction workers to easily register information about threats and potential dangers. “The number of registered notifications increased by over 300 percent,” says Stanikowski. A third solution collected data on the workload of machines, reducing reporting time from 16 to two hours. “These were all mobile applications, enabling staff to collect data even at remote sites that did not have internet coverage. The data simply synchronizes with the central database later, once the device goes online,” adds Stanikowski.
More visibility, improved internal processes
With streamlined task management, data collection, and reporting, Budimex now has enhanced internal processes and visibility. “We have collected data that was not available before,” explains Wiśniewski. “We can now make more accurate decisions, improve business processes and manage the work of our teams spread across the country more efficiently. Our employees can work anywhere, anytime, on any device, and our IT department can now create solutions faster.”

Moving forward, Budimex and Developico continue to improve the quality of data through standardization and data dictionaries. “We are also thinking about streamlining other production processes with Power Platform,” says Stanikowski. “With the speed and flexibility, we get through Microsoft solutions, I believe we will continue to meet our changing business needs for years to come.”
