Whakarongorau delivers New Zealand’s national telehealth services, supporting more than 700,000 people a year across over 30 services. At-risk contacts have doubled in five years, contacts are taking longer and admin tasks are consuming valuable counsellor time.
Guided by Te Ao Māori values, Whakarongorau deployed Copilot to reduce admin burden, including summarising interaction notes. They used Azure Agentic AI to enable the ‘Welcome’ agent, which interacts with people using 1737 SMS and Women’s Refuge webchat until a counsellor is available.
Back-office tasks that took a week now take an hour using Copilot. With ‘Welcome’, people using the 1737 mental health SMS and Women’s Refuge webchat get an instant response and are held on the line until they can speak with a counsellor. Key details are captured so clinicians can start support faster.
