“We approach client support holistically. There’s a whole range of social issues that can evolve from legal issues and vice versa. We have progressed tremendously over the last five years in terms of being able to identify the issues litigants face.” CJC’s latest project, Self-Help e-Web (SHeW), is a pioneering solution in Asia that transforms the way citizens access justice. “The whole purpose of SHeW is to be a virtual self-help center, particularly for disadvantaged citizens. Just as we have help centers in all three courts—the State court, the Family court, and also a satellite office at the Supreme court—there is now a fourth help center—the virtual one,” declares Lee.
Community Justice Centre pioneers legal assistance in Asia through Self-Help e-Web
The Community Justice Centre (CJC) in Singapore is a social service agency (SSA) providing a wide range of support services for Litigants-in-Person (LiPs) and their family members to enable them to effectively navigate the legal system. “The Centre provides all legal and social support for people who cannot afford legal representation. Each year we have more than 18,000 interactions with such litigants,” says Leonard Lee, Executive Director of the CJC.
