Innovation at high speed

The new Renault R.S.19 is the result of real-time team collaborations across multiple sites 24-7. The team captures 50 billion data points per car per race, using visualization and simulations to optimize car performance. Learn more about the tech and see if you can customize a winning car.

Think fast, move fast

There are thousands of ways to set up a Formula 1 car for a specific race event, each of which includes thousands of configuration points. To accelerate decision making and find the optimal set up, Renault F1 Team switched from running some of their simulations on-premise to Azure Batch where they could distribute the work across virtual machines. Now, a process that used to take hours is done in less than 15 minutes—and for a fraction of the cost.

Design with a new perspective

Sometimes the best way to work with data is to go hands-on. Renault F1 Team uses Microsoft HoloLens to bring data simulations to life. Through mixed reality, engineers can visualize information in new ways, like rotating the car 360-degrees with a simple gesture or visualizing air flow over a car, in far more detail than in the limited space of a flat screen.

Turnaround at top speed

In the days leading up to a race, Renault F1 Team has to keep up with an innovation cycle that pushes the limits of both composite and metal manufacturing. Producing and delivering parts at this pace requires an integrated system. With Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Power BI dashboards, the team has a holistic view of their production cycle. They can track parts from material supplier to production—and from inspection to delivery to the Race Team—with constant health checks on their tasks and processes.

Teamwork never stops

With more than 1,000 team members across the globe working 24/7 to design, manufacture, and innovate the new Renault R.S.19, collaboration is crucial. Microsoft 365 enables the teams at Renault’s two sites in Enstone and Viry-Châtillon, along with the constantly moving race team, to coordinate and communicate in real-time and deliver fast results.

Step 1: Choose your track

Tight and technical

Give your suspension a work out. Here it’s all about corner speeds, not top speeds, so you better keep an eye on those tires.

Fast and open

Ah, the thrill of the open road. If you do this right, you’ll barely have time to enjoy it because you’re moving so fast.
