Many of the scenarios are one-click actions, making them beginner-friendly. They\u2019ve been thoroughly researched and tested by our Copilot readiness team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe did over a month\u2019s work of surveying different groups to find out what their daily top Copilot scenarios are,\u201d says Cadie Kneip, a readiness business program manager on the Readiness team in Microsoft Digital. \u201cOur extended team whittled them down to 10, from over 100. They had to be things you could use every single day.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Originally, our Readiness team did an intensive training called the Copilot Power Hour. \u201cIt was like drinking from a firehose,\u201d says David VanGilder, also a readiness business program manager in Microsoft Digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-not-stacked-on-mobile is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28232c24 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex has-2-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were able to integrate the scenarios into a robust skilling model that provides an easy-to-follow path for customers to onboard and extend their knowledge of Copilot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:150px\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" src=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/insidetrack\/blog\/uploads\/prod\/2025\/07\/Tricia-Gill.png\" alt=\"Gill smiles in a photo.\" class=\"wp-image-19640\" style=\"width:150px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/insidetrack\/blog\/uploads\/prod\/2025\/07\/Tricia-Gill.png 500w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/insidetrack\/blog\/uploads\/prod\/2025\/07\/Tricia-Gill-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/insidetrack\/blog\/uploads\/prod\/2025\/07\/Tricia-Gill-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<cite>Tricia Gill, principal content program manager, Content Excellence team, Data, Platform, and Growth<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We winnowed the good ideas we got from that exercise down to 10 scenarios that we thought would be a good way for teams like yours to get started using Copilot. \u201cWe made sure to focus on the ideas that are for everybody,\u201d VanGilder says. \u201cIt\u2019s not for power users.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After our 10 scenarios were defined and learning assets made available to Microsoft employees, Microsoft Digital partnered with the Content Excellence team in our Data, Platform, and Growth organization, which creates impactful and educational customer-facing learning content for Microsoft customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe were able to integrate the scenarios into a robust skilling model that provides an easy-to-follow path for customers to onboard and extend their knowledge of Copilot,\u201d says Tricia Gill, a principal content program manager on the Content Excellence team. \u201cThis is enabling us to help customers realize value even faster.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The partnership between the two teams has been key, says John Martin, a director of content operations on the Content Excellence team. \u201cWe love to see how our efforts as Customer Zero translate beyond Microsoft,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Catch up on long email threads with Copilot in Outlook<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of many tips that don\u2019t need a prompt\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/catch-up-on-a-long-email-thread-5e99722e-1cc4-42c7-b26d-2ff36cd71df5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you just open a thread and select the Summarize button<\/a>. Copilot then provides a summary at the top of your email.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You could use this when your boss adds you to an email thread that has been going on for a long time and asks you to solve a problem that\u2019s buried somewhere in all those many emails back and forth. Recap Teams meetings with Copilot in Teams<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can use this tip <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/recap-a-teams-meeting-2e62a761-5dd8-4315-8100-5b41bb2c8a41\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to recap an entire meeting<\/a>, or if you join late, you can recap only the part you missed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, when you return from vacation, instead of spending days catching up by watching the recordings of several meetings, you can quickly read a text summary of each meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWith Copilot, the prompt \u2018Recap the meeting so far\u2019 gets you caught up when you\u2019re five minutes late, and you don\u2019t have to disrupt the meeting by asking,\u201d says VanGilder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Summarize your week with Copilot<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Say you\u2019re working on two or three major projects and several minor projects. It can be a lot to keep track of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/summarize-your-week-7094c0b5-d043-432c-8811-e1aebb90eb43\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">With this prompt<\/a>, Copilot shows you the past week of chats and emails, and you can easily see them in a table that includes whether you\u2019ve responded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWhat\u2019s really lovely about this one is that people already know how to do the first half of this prompt,\u201d VanGilder says. \u201cBut the second part, to put it the results in a table\u2014that creates a nice display of results. I was able to get caught up on all my projects quickly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Generate meeting notes with Copilot in Teams<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Copilot can list key topics and action items from a meeting. If you\u2019re the meeting host, this can be very helpful, as you&#8217;re probably used to spending the meeting with your nose buried in OneNote. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/generate-meeting-notes-6423f73e-d389-4a5d-8d87-ff8dae3ca381\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">With Copilot taking your notes<\/a>, you can be an active participant in your meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere\u2019s more than one way to use this functionality,\u201d VanGilder says. \u201cInstead of clicking \u2018Generate meeting notes,\u2019 I can type in the prompt and add \u2018and put the results in the form of an email I can send to participants.\u2019 I do quickly proofread it, because it\u2019s not called Pilot, it\u2019s Copilot, so you do need to check its work!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Draft email with Copilot in Outlook<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, many of us are experts in sending and receiving emails for work. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/draft-an-email-d718645c-601c-454a-854d-78a9215ba0a0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">But sometimes you have to write an email that\u2019s especially challenging.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, it could be that there\u2019s some friction about the subject, and you want help in being diplomatic. Or maybe the recipient doesn\u2019t want or need a lot of technical details, and you\u2019d like some guidance on making it understandable to a general audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is one that will help you look good,\u201d says Cadie Kneip, a readiness business program manager within Microsoft Digital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Get ready for your day with Copilot<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In movies and TV shows, when a busy executive walks into their office, an assistant is standing there to say, \u201cGood morning, So-and-so called about the XYZ project, and you have a meeting at 9 o\u2019clock with the Such-and-such team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/get-ready-for-your-day-7c8aa8b7-2d96-4816-b400-e329d2f00f53\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This tip turns Copilot into that assistant for you.<\/a> It summarizes major items from the preceding day\u2014emails, Teams messages, and meetings. It also gives you a table of your upcoming meetings for the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t have to use the part of the prompt that requests an \u201cinspirational tone\u201d or \u201ca touch of fun,\u201d but it shows the power of Copilot prompts. \u201cIt\u2019s a good example that shows how users can tailor the prompts,\u201d Kneip says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. Discover what was said with Copilot<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This tip is for times when <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/discover-what-was-said-c96a3c94-209c-4154-9fdf-d18b3c38f9d5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you remember that someone messaged you but you can\u2019t find it<\/a>, or you want to recall what a key stakeholder said about a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis prompt uses the Context IQ, and that\u2019s really the magic of Copilot,\u201d VanGilder says, referring to the forward slash (\u201c\/\u201d) you type when entering the prompt. \u201cYou can use it to search for documents, meetings, or people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">8. Boost your brainstorms with Copilot<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/brainstorm-ideas-101a2870-3832-429b-a801-53dfc17a4972\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This tip also uses the smart search feature of Context IQ.<\/a> You might not use it daily, but it can save you a lot of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Microsoft Digital readiness team used this tip to generate plans for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/insidetrack\/blog\/camp-copilot-try-our-7-tips-for-driving-microsoft-365-copilot-adoption-with-a-virtual-skilling-event\/\">Camp Copilot<\/a>, a three-week training program. \u201cThe prompt we gave was, \u2018I want to do a fun, interactive, summer training session for employees. Can you come up with a few ideas?\u2019\u201d Kneip says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One Copilot user came up with an innovative use for this functionality: They used Copilot to write an email responding to a customer complaint, supplying the tool with the company guidelines for such responses to help shape the output. After refining Copilot\u2019s draft email into the final version, they said the Copilot draft had been 70-80% complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">9. Create presentations from your ideas and files with Copilot in PowerPoint<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You probably won\u2019t use this tip every day, but it\u2019s helpful because <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/create-a-presentation-from-existing-files-beb15deb-3241-4711-a480-9cbd8dc4d755\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">it removes the struggle of staring at a blank page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPeople will collect information from customers, put it into a Word document, and then use Copilot to convert it into a PowerPoint presentation,\u201d VanGilder says. \u201cIt has a lot of use in training and selling.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">10. Uncover relevant files with Copilot<strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve ever needed to find a file but couldn\u2019t remember exactly what it was named or where it was located\u2014and who hasn\u2019t?\u2014then <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/topic\/find-relevant-files-05dfe7fe-b3df-45e4-830e-0cbed1a433bd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">this tip\u2019s for you<\/a>. Copilot can search for files related to a specific project or topic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The prompt was suggested by an attorney at Microsoft, who asked if Copilot could help find files. VanGilder\u2019s response was, \u201cGive it a try and let me know what happens.\u201d And it worked!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis one&#8217;s an exciting prompt that people are absolutely in love with, to quickly find what you\u2019re looking for,\u201d VanGilder says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Learn more<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We hope these 10 scenarios help you and your organization get more out of Copilot.
