Faster and safer with Microsoft
G&K’s scalable standardization also enhances security. The company designed its Security Operations Center to combat the most common and damaging security challenges faced by businesses. The Security Operations Center relies on Microsoft 365 security capabilities and proprietary G&K services to help companies like Uniper manage identities and authentication, safeguard data, improve scalability, and deploy the apps employees need on any device.
With Microsoft Azure Active Directory, Uniper delivers cloud-based identity and access management across the organization. Uniper employees get secure and convenient access to both on-premises and cloud apps from the same cloud portal through Azure AD’s Application Proxy and Single Sign-on features. To boost security while enhancing the end-user experience the team uses Azure Multi-Factor Authentication via a Conditional Access policy, and helps to maintain privileged user identity security with Privileged Identity Management. The company also uses Microsoft Intune to manage devices, and Microsoft Defender Advanced Threat Protection to deploy preventative security measures and manage post-breach investigation and response.
“From identity management to devices, we can manage everything much more simply with Azure,” says Pezold. “In the past, we have fully outsourced our managed workplace, but with increasing insight into knowledge workers and their workplaces as well as Azure services, we can manage more internally and react more quickly when we need to respond to security threats or adjust to the market.”
G&K uses the native interoperability between Windows 10, Microsoft Intune, and its own companion called RealmJoin to help streamline and simplify configuration and deployment of clients and applications. “Our primary service is based heavily on Intune, but all of our offerings are helped by Windows 10,” Kanja explains. “Windows 10 has all the pieces in place to work well with cloud solutions, `and Microsoft 365 is ideal when you want to roll out new solutions to users more efficiently.”
Uniper also deploys new devices and applications through Windows Autopilot to its teams in a matter of hours—without user intervention. And with modern hardware like Microsoft Surface Go with LTE functionality, Uniper employees also get a complete, connected experience wherever they go.
“In the old days, we’d preconfigure an image on the laptop and everything was locked down and standardized,” says Pezold. “With Windows Autopilot, users provision their own machine. It makes things more flexible for them, and much more streamlined for us.”
