Exam 480 and Exam 483 validate programming skills in a specific language. By passing one of these exams you will earn a Microsoft Specialist certification. In addition, you will complete one of the exam requirements for an MCSD.

MCPD certifications validate a comprehensive set of skills that are necessary to design, build and deploy applications successfully by using Microsoft Visual Studio and the Microsoft .NET Framework. This certification builds on the MCTS certification.

To earn the MCPD: Windows Developer 4, you must have the following certifications:

  • MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Windows Applications

  • MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Service Communication Applications

  • MCTS: .NET Framework 4, Data Access

Updates for our developer certification exams and Microsoft Official Courseware (MOC) offerings include:

  • November 2013—January 2014:

    • MCSD: Windows Store Apps using HTML5 (70-481 and 70-482) exams were updated with Visual Studio 2013 and Windows 8.1 content.

    • MCSD: Windows Store Apps using C# (70-484 and 70-485) exams were updated with Visual Studio 2013 and Windows 8.1 content.

  • 30 April 2014:

    • MCSD: Web Applications (70-486 and 70-487) exams will be refreshed to cover solutions based on Visual Studio 2013, MVC 5 and recent developments in Azure.

    • Due to the limited number of changes to the exam topics, updates to the related Microsoft Official Courseware are not planned at this time.

We encourage you to continue down the path for your certification. Exams that are currently in market will continue to count toward credit for the associated certification, and instructor-led and self-study courses that are in market are great ways to help you prepare.
