Manage Your Subscriptions

You can use the Microsoft Online Services Customer Portal not only to try or buy subscriptions to Microsoft Online Services offerings, but also to manage your subscriptions.

Among the tasks you can perform are adding more users or storage, renewing a subscription, converting a trial into a paid subscription, and adding or changing a Microsoft Authorized Partner.

View Status and Details of Subscriptions

To view the current status of a subscription

  1. Sign in to the Customer Portal using your Windows Live ID.

  2. Go to the Subscriptions tab.

    The current status of each subscription is displayed in the Status column.

  3. Locate the subscription you want to change.

    Under Status, one of the following appears:

    Status Description
    Awaiting activation You need to activate the subscription.
    In queue No action required. Your service activation is temporarily on hold due to heavy traffic, but will be activated.
    Activation in progress No action required. Wait until the status changes to Active before using the service.
    Partially active Some services in your subscription have been activated. You can use these active services.
    Activation failed Activation of the subscription was not successful. Contact support.
    Active The subscription is ready for use. Follow the instructions sent to you in an e-mail message.
    Update pending Recent updates to the subscription are being activated.
    Service canceled The subscription has been canceled.
    Expired The subscription has expired. To renew the subscription, contact support.

Actions you can take depend on the current status of the subscription. For more information about these actions, see the following section: Manage subscriptions.

To view details of a subscription

  1. Sign in to the Customer Portal using your Windows Live ID.

  2. On the Subscriptions page, under Subscription Name, below the name of the subscription you are interested in, click More.

    A pop-up window appears, which lists the following details:

    • Subscription start and end dates
    • Subscription type
    • Name of the account owner
    • Name of the Microsoft Authorized Partner you have associated with the subscription
    • Subscription ID number
    • Status
    • Where relevant, components of the service
    • If applicable, Volume Licensing Agreement program and number

After the subscription is active, you can edit some of the details, as allowed by the individual service.

To update service details for a subscription

  1. Sign in to the Customer Portal using your Windows Live ID.

  2. On the Subscriptions page, locate the subscription you want to update, and then in the Actions list select Edit service details, and click Go.

To manage subscriptions

  1. Sign in to the Customer Portal using your Windows Live ID.

  2. On the Subscriptions page, locate the subscription that you want to edit or update, and then in the Actions list select a relevant action, and click Go.

    These choices vary depending on the status of the subscription and are as follows:

    • Awaiting Activation

      Available actions Description
      Activate subscription Opens the Service Activation Wizard, so you can begin activation.
      Add/edit partner Opens the Search Partner Wizard, so you can add a new partner or change an existing one.
      Opt out/Opt in to auto renew Enables you to choose to stop renewing your subscription automatically, or to start renewing it again.
      Remove partner Removes an existing partner from the subscription.
    • Activation in Progress

      Available action Description
      View Opens the Service Activation Wizard to the Confirmation page for this subscription.
    • Active

      Available actions Description
      Buy now Converts your trial to a paid subscription. Because there are several choices to consider when you convert, you may need more information.
      Buy storage Adds more storage space to an existing paid subscription.
      Increase quantity Adds more licenses to an existing paid subscription or more storage to an extra storage subscription.
      Get credentials Enables you to get your service administrator user name and password to sign on to the Microsoft Online Services Administration Center for the first time.
      Edit service details Enables you to edit provisioning and service administrator details.
      Add/edit partner Opens the Find a Partner Wizard, so you can add a new partner or change an existing one.
      View subscription details Displays a summary of the current subscription details.
      Opt out of auto renew/Opt in to auto renew Enables you to choose to stop renewing your subscription automatically, or to start renewing it automatically.
      Edit billing information Opens the Billing Information Wizard, so you can update your credit card information and the billing address.
      Remove partner Removes the partner from the subscription.
    • Expired

      Available action Description
      View subscription details Displays a summary of the subscription details.
