Microsoft Works Suite 2006 Fact Sheet
An overview of the features and benefits of Microsoft Works Suite 2006.

October 2006

Microsoft® Works Suite 2006 is an incredible value, integrating six complete Microsoft software programs — Works 8, Word 2002, Encarta® Encyclopedia Standard 2006, Digital Image Standard 2006, Money 2006 Standard, and Streets & Trips Essentials 2006 — into one comprehensive package. With the new suite on their home PC, families can get more stuff done quickly, from tracking and paying bills to managing to-do lists, so they can spend more time enjoying the things they want to do such as taking a vacation or watching their favorite sports team.

Works Suite 2006 includes full versions of the following six popular Microsoft software titles:

New Edition! Digital Image Standard 2006 makes digital photography fun and easy by offering the essential tools needed to organize, enhance and share digital photos.

New! Video Support allows for organization of videos in the Digital Image Library. Consumers can easily assign a 5-Star Rating, add keywords and captions, or mark videos with customizable Flags representing a variety of actions such as For Review or To Share. Popular video formats are supported, and videos will play back through the default media player.

New! Hierarchical Keywords and Labels provide customizable tags that consumers can use to organize, sort through and find their photos and video clips in the best way for them — whether that’s finding all the photos of a family vacation or a particular picture of a certain someone.

New! Hover Thumbnail enlarges a thumbnail image whenever the cursor hovers over it, making it easy to view the image, along with details such as date taken, file type and size, resolution, and assigned Labels.

New! Sharing Disc allows consumers to easily burn photo CDs to share with friends and family, without disrupting detailed photo-archive settings.

New Edition!Microsoft Money 2006 Standard helps consumers easily see where their money is going and keep track of their day-to-day finances. By automatically consolidating all account transactions in one place, Money provides a daily snapshot of spending and budget.

New! Multiple Bill Payment. Money now enables consumers to pay numerous bills from multiple accounts all at once, including the ability to pay directly from the Bill Calendar.

Enhanced! Spending Tracker. Consumers can now set up their budget their way. It’s simple to track spending in categories they want to watch closely, such as dining out, entertainment or clothing. Spending “thermometers” show them at a glance exactly how much they’ve spent and when they’re getting close to budget limits. The Spending Tracker now lets consumers automatically track daily spending in as many favorite categories as they want and provides alerts when overspending occurs.

New Edition!Encarta Encyclopedia Standard 2006, the No. 1 best-selling encyclopedia brand1, is an easy-to-use and trusted multimedia resource that provides consumers with accurate, up-to-date content whether they are online or offline.

New! With a new look and feel, Encarta Standard 2006 makes it easy to sort information by relevancy or group results by type such as by article or media, letting consumers find the content and resources they need quickly and easily.

New Edition! Microsoft Streets & Trips Essentials 2006 provides real-time GPS support, turn-by-turn driving directions, and highly detailed maps that include one-way street indicators, route planning and free online road construction updates.

Enhanced! Updated mapping data for the U.S. and Canada. With more than 5.4 million miles of local, city and highway roads and more than 1.7 million points of interest across the United States and Canada, Streets & Trips Essentials 2006 provides some of the most comprehensive mapping data available. Free road construction updates are available online for no additional charge and save valuable time by sending consumers alerts about local, state, national (U.S.) and international (Canada) construction and road closures.

Enhanced! Re-route from Here alerts travelers if they get off course and automatically recalculates driving directions from their current location to any other destination needed. With Streets & Trips Essentials 2006, it’s easy to get back on track if a turn was missed or a route needs to be modified due to road conditions or a schedule change.

New! Locate Me technology helps lost travelers determine where they are by using Wi-Fi hotspots to pinpoint their location.

New! Night Map Style enhances views of maps and directions for easy reading when consumers are traveling at night or on dark roadways.

Enhanced! Microsoft Works 8 provides essential productivity tools including word processing, spreadsheet, database, calendar, e-mail, Internet tools and more. Based on Microsoft Corp.’s Trustworthy Computing Initiative, the Works 8 program has been updated to give consumers advanced and reliable technology that’s more secure than ever before.

The View Together feature combines or overlays any grouping of calendars, making it easy to manage multiple schedules. Each person’s appointments appear on the combined calendar in her or his personal color. Shared appointments are displayed with a special black icon, making them easy to identify.

iCalendar Format Support enables consumers to share personal appointments with other iCalendar programs and import events and holidays into the calendar from Web sites, such as

Calendar printing allows consumers to print a standard landscape, binder-sized or daily, weekly or monthly calendar — for one person or for the entire household. Consumers also can print a blank calendar that can be used to pencil in events before they are added to the official version.

Easy-to-use templates make it easier than ever to complete everyday tasks quickly, from greeting cards to résumés.

With the Dictionary, consumers have quick and easy access to definitions, whether they are writing a letter or just need a quick reference. With the Microsoft PowerPoint® Viewer consumers can see PowerPoint presentations on their home PC, even on systems without Microsoft Office or PowerPoint.
