Securitas Group is transforming. As we continue to grow our protective services solutions, we use technology to redefine our brand through new digitally driven products and client-centric services. It’s our response to a world where technology and client needs are rapidly evolving. We recognize that we can’t solve the security challenges of the future with disconnected surveillance cameras and security officers only.
As our clients become increasingly global, we need to change how we go to market. This involves transitioning from mainly local operations to a highly collaborative model, where we leverage our global presence and create a structure capable of responding at scale to the demands of multinational clients. We’ve recently created three worldwide functions to inspire and deliver new tech-driven products and services—Global Clients and Vertical Markets, Global Electronic Security Business Centers, and the Global Guarding Center of Excellence. Add to these our 44 Security Operations Centers serving 760,000 clients around the world and our Global IT and Intelligence Services function that create digital, predictive, and cost-effective security services, and Securitas is well prepared to lead in today’s protective services market.
But to get there, it was imperative that we transformed our workplace and empowered our employees with modern business productivity tools. We deployed Microsoft 365 so employees can access the information they need to work together when and where they need to and do so in a highly secure manner. Given our people-centric corporate culture, we’re committed to augmenting the skills of our employees with the best technology tools we can find, including trialing Microsoft Surface devices with staff in our Stockholm headquarters and IT department. Microsoft 365 helps us differentiate Securitas as a great place to work—no small benefit in many of our markets where the competition for labor is fierce.
The communication and collaboration services in Microsoft 365 play a key role in supporting our global functions and driving a consistent, high level of excellence in client service. We use our modern workplace tools to gather and share best practices across the organization. Securitas used to operate mainly locally, and a lack of proper tools made internal collaboration cumbersome, but today we efficiently address the needs of multinational clients through coordinated bids, service delivery, and client support—all within the Microsoft Teams environment. Recently, our Swedish sales team mobilized quickly in Teams to respond to an RFP from a large global client and demonstrate that our company would provide the best services, thanks to four weeks of intense and efficient teamwork using a Teams workspace and Teams Meetings for many video calls to launch test sites. These workspaces were augmented with Microsoft Planner to manage each project per location. We won the contract and the global client said it was the best bid process they had experienced.
Based in part on the positive feedback from the success with this large client, employees everywhere are adopting Teams. I use Teams every day. We coauthor in the Teams environment to save time and eliminate version control issues, and we use persistent chat to keep records of conversations or to converse with colleagues while collaborating on Word documents or PowerPoint decks. I use Teams Meetings for all my video calls; it’s so much easier and more reliable than the third-party videoconferencing system we had that required PIN codes. And with all my files synced to OneDrive, I can pick up and work on any document on my phone.
With Microsoft 365, our more natural, easy, and collaborative work environments boost mobility and productivity—but not at the expense of security. We feel confident that the integrated security capabilities have strengthened our security and compliance posture—without requiring a lot of extra work from IT. We also began to take advantage of capabilities like information rights management within Microsoft Azure Information Protection to help keep our data safe.
Modernizing our technical infrastructure and starting to bring intelligent products to market is a key strategic decision and significant investment for Securitas. A central part of that investment is a modern workplace based on Microsoft 365. The successful deployment of Microsoft 365 to 30,000 information workers was a huge milestone in Securitas history. Next, we plan to bring our 340,000 security officers into the Microsoft 365 environment. These cloud-based business tools do more than provide a platform for productivity; they support our strategy of combining people with knowledge and technology to help us deliver the security services of the future.
