Manually pair Surface Pen with two side buttons

Applies to

Surface Pen.

If your Surface Pen won’t write or connect to Bluetooth®, you may need to manually pair your pen with your Surface. Here’s how.

Note
If the pen already appears in the list of Bluetooth devices, you might need to remove the Surface Pen from the device list and pair it with your Surface again.
Step 1:  Go to Start Windows logo and select Settings > Devices > Bluetooth.
Step 2:  Hold down the top button for about 7 seconds, until the light in the middle of the pen clip starts to flash.

Step 3:  From the Manage Bluetooth devices list on your Surface, select Surface Pen, and then select Pair.

If the pen doesn’t pair, try these steps one more time. If it still doesn’t pair, contact us.
