How to switch between modes on Surface Book
Surface Book and Surface Book with Performance Base.
Switch between modes
Your Surface Book is the ultimate laptop—it transforms to work any way you do. Ready to adapt to the way you want to work, whether as a laptop, tablet, drawing surface, or for giving a presentation. Here's how to switch between modes.
Surface Book comes in laptop mode, with the screen and keyboard attached. When you're done using it, close the screen to make it sleep.
Detach the keyboard to transform your Surface Book into a tablet. Then use the Surface Pen, the touchscreen, and the touch keyboard to get around.
|Step 1:||Press and hold the Detach key until the light on the key turns green.|
|Step 2:||Pull the screen away from the keyboard. You'll have a few seconds to detach it before it reconnects automatically.|
The screen has its own battery, but you'll need to reattach the keyboard when it's time to recharge.
Line up the keyboard with the screen and then click the keyboard into place.
In Draw mode, you use your Surface Book as a tablet, but the keyboard is still attached and folded under the screen. This means you can charge your Surface and use the USB ports, plus you'll have more battery time to draw, take notes, and surf the web.
To switch to Draw mode, connect the screen and the keyboard so the back of the screen is facing the keys, and then close the keyboard.
Show off your screen
When you want to make a presentation or watch a movie, connect the screen and the keyboard so the back of the screen is facing the keys.
