To update your Surface with the latest drivers and firmware, select the .msi file name that matches your Surface model and operating system version. For example, to update a Surface Pro 3 device running Windows 8.1, choose the file SurfacePro3_Win8x_151026_1.msi.

Other Surface models

If your Surface model isn’t listed in the table above—for example, if you have an older product like Surface Pro—that means .msi update files are not currently available for that model. We recommend connecting to Windows Update to update these Surface model. Here’s how:

Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen and tap Settings.
(If you’re using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and click Settings.)
Step 2:

Tap or click Change PC settings > Update and recovery.

Step 3:

Tap or click Check now. If updates are available, tap or click View details.

Step 4: Choose the updates you want to install and tap or click Install.
You may need to restart your Surface after the updates have installed.

Imaging support

If you’re an IT professional and are preparing or updating custom Windows images for your Surface devices, download imaging files from the Download Center to ensure that your image uses the latest firmware and drivers. If you’re building a new reference image to be deployed, download the .zip package, which can be imported into System Center Configuration Manager, Microsoft Deployment Toolkit, or other deployment tools. For more information, see Manage Surface driver and firmware updates.
