Troubleshoot Windows apps on Surface

In many cases, the Windows Store will notify you automatically if there’s a problem with an app and try to fix it for you. If the Store doesn’t notify you of a problem or if you continue having problems with an app, here are some things to try.

Notes

Solution 1: Update your Windows app

Step 1: Go to Start Windows logo, and select Store.
Step 2: In the Store, select the Account picture Account picture in the upper-right corner and select Downloads.
If you haven't already signed in to the Windows Store, sign in using your Microsoft account.
Step 3: Select Check for updates.
If updates are available, they will begin installing automatically.
Note
Windows apps update automatically in the background. However, you can still check manually for updates using the procedure above.

If you’re still having trouble with the app after updating it, try Solution 2.

Solution 2: Uninstall and reinstall the app

Step 1: Go to Start Windows logo, and select All Apps.
Step 2: Press and hold (or right-click) the app you want to uninstall, select Uninstall, and select Uninstall.
Step 3: To reinstall the app, go to Start Windows logo, and select Store.
Step 4: In the Store, select the Account picture Account picture in the upper-right corner and select My Library.
Step 5: In the left pane, select Apps.
Step 6: Select the app you want to reinstall and select Install.

Note
It may take a few minutes for an uninstalled app to appear in the list of apps that aren’t currently installed.

If you're still having trouble with the app after you reinstall it, try Solution 3.

Solution 3: Contact the app's publisher

Step 1: Go to Start Windows logo, and select Store.
Step 2: Search or browse for the app and select it.
Step 3: Scroll to the Details section of the app's description page, and under Additional information, select the support link for the app. The link will open an email message for you to contact support or will take you to a support website.
